Today we’d like to introduce you to Hailey Upshaw.
Hi Hailey, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
H+K Homes started from a passion for building homes that stand out.
Our founder began his career on the inspection side of the industry, which gave us a strong understanding of what goes into a well-built home. After seeing how many homes felt rushed, plain, or lacked personality, we wanted to create something different. Homes with modern design, better details, and a higher level of care.
Our first projects started small, but each one helped shape what H+K is today. We focus on building homes that are clean, modern, functional, and built with pride. From the layout to the finishes, our goal is to make every home feel intentional and unique.
H+K has grown through hard work, attention to detail, high level communicaiton and a belief that new construction should feel exciting, personal, and built to last.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
H+K originally started as a home decor company. Hailey Upshaw, the H in H+K was a registered nurse in 2020 when COVID 19 struck. She was pregnant and was told she was going to have to work on the covid unit even though she was pregnant.
It was decided it was best if she quit her job for the care of the future baby. While Keith Myers, the K in H+K, continued to work as a building official/city inspector continuing to better his craft in construction code. The first year of the business was slow and more a pastime for Hailey having a newborn at home.
Keith then took his knowledge of the construction field and applied it to their business. Pulling a loan out against their personal residence to build their first SPEC home. The home was sold in the first 5 days and almost 5 years later H+K has tansformed into a custom home building company south of the KC metro and continues to build SPEC homes and is currently managing over 2.5 Million worth of custom residential construction projects.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Continuing to build luxury homes, transitioning into primarily modern/contemporary designed homes.
