Rising Stars: Meet Jamez Hunter of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamez Hunter.

Hi Jamez, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My name is Jamez Hunter, and my professional journey has been anything but traditional. Over the years, I have built experience across media, communications, event planning, talent management, and content creation while balancing full-time work and higher education.

I earned a Bachelors in Mass Communication, Humanities, and Theatre, and I am currently pursuing an MBA in Marketing. Throughout my career, I have worked in radio as an on-air announcer, DJ, and talk show host, which helped me develop strong communication, audience engagement, and storytelling skills.

Outside of traditional employment, I have spent years developing creative projects, producing digital content, hosting podcasts and live events, and building my own media company, Haus of The Baddest LLC. Through these experiences, I have gained hands-on knowledge in marketing, branding, project management, talent coordination, event planning, and community building.

My long-term goal is to combine my passion for media, entertainment, marketing, and esports into a career where I can help create engaging experiences for audiences while contributing to the growth of innovative brands and organizations. Every step of my journey has taught me adaptability, persistence, and the value of continuous learning, and I am excited to continue building on that foundation.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but those challenges have shaped who I am today.

One of my biggest struggles was completing my education. It took me much longer than expected to earn my bachelor’s degree due to a combination of financial challenges, health issues, personal setbacks, and periods where I had to step away from school. There were times when I questioned whether I would ever finish, but I remained committed to my goal and eventually earned my degree after years of persistence.

I’ve also faced the challenge of balancing full-time work, school, and my creative ambitions at the same time. There have been periods where I worked long hours while managing coursework and building my own projects on the side. Learning how to manage my time, stay disciplined, and keep moving forward even when progress felt slow has been one of the most valuable lessons of my career.

Financial obstacles have also been a reality. Like many people pursuing higher education and entrepreneurial goals, I’ve had to make sacrifices and navigate difficult situations while continuing to invest in my future.

Looking back, I wouldn’t change those experiences because they taught me resilience, adaptability, and determination. They showed me that success is rarely a straight path, and that persistence often matters just as much as talent.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work centers around communications, media, marketing, and audience engagement. Throughout my career, I have gained experience in radio broadcasting, content creation, event planning, talent management, and digital media. I am also currently pursuing an MBA in Marketing, which has allowed me to combine creative storytelling with strategic business and marketing principles.

I specialize in creating engaging experiences that connect with audiences, whether that is through live events, digital content, podcasts, social media, or broadcast media. One of my strengths is being able to understand both the creative and operational sides of a project. I enjoy developing ideas, building communities, promoting events, and helping bring concepts to life from planning through execution.

I am particularly proud of earning my bachelor’s degree after a long and challenging journey. Completing that goal required perseverance, discipline, and a commitment to keep moving forward despite obstacles. It was 14 years in the making. I am also proud of building my own media company, Haus of The Baddest LLC, which serves as an outlet for my creative projects in content creation, entertainment, publishing, and gaming.

What sets me apart is my versatility. I have experience across multiple industries and disciplines, including broadcasting, marketing, event management, entertainment, and entrepreneurship. I am comfortable wearing many hats, learning new skills, and adapting to changing situations. I combine creativity with strategic thinking, and I bring a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and a genuine passion for connecting with people and building meaningful experiences.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
My perspective on risk is that the biggest risk isn’t necessarily failing, but it’s never trying in the first place. While I believe in being strategic and calculated, I also think growth happens when you step outside of your comfort zone and pursue opportunities that align with your long-term goals.

For me, one of the biggest risks would be accepting a life that doesn’t reflect my ambitions. There is nothing wrong with working a traditional 9-to-5 job, but I have always known that I wanted to build something larger than myself. I’ve never been fully comfortable with the idea of spending my entire career working for someone else without pursuing my own creative and entrepreneurial goals alongside it.

A major risk I am currently taking is investing time and energy into industries and projects that I am passionate about, even when there is no guaranteed outcome. One example is esports. My long-term vision involves working within the esports industry and eventually producing esports-related events and content. Originally, I planned to pursue that goal further down the road, but I have decided to begin getting involved behind the scenes much sooner than expected. That means putting myself out there, networking, volunteering, learning the industry, and gaining practical experience before I feel completely “ready.”

I am also pushing myself professionally by stepping into marketing and promotion opportunities outside of my comfort zone. Recently, I became involved as a promoter for a national drag pageant, which has given me the opportunity to apply marketing, branding, audience engagement, and event promotion skills in a real-world setting. It’s a challenge, but it is helping me grow as both a marketer and a business professional.

Another risk I’ve taken is committing to my creative projects despite having a demanding schedule. While working full-time and pursuing an MBA, I am also finishing the final details of one of my novels and continuing to build my media company. Many people wait for the perfect time to pursue their goals, but I’ve learned that sometimes you have to create opportunities while balancing the responsibilities you already have.

Ultimately, I don’t view risk as recklessness. I view it as having the courage to pursue meaningful goals despite uncertainty. The opportunities that have contributed most to my growth have come from taking calculated risks, embracing new challenges, and betting on myself when there was no guarantee of success.
