Today we’d like to introduce you to Brehanna Adkins.
Hi Brehanna, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Ever since I was a little girl, I always felt like I was destined for something big in the beauty world. I’ve always loved makeup, beauty, and the confidence that comes with feeling good about yourself. I was fascinated by how actors and actresses on TV and in movies always looked so flawless, and I became curious about the artistry behind it all. For me, makeup was never about vanity — it was about confidence, self-expression, and helping people feel beautiful from the inside out. That mindset is actually what inspired the name “Beautiful Bre.”
I started playing in makeup at a very young age and quickly realized it was something I genuinely loved. In high school, I was involved in color guard, dance, and plays, so being in performance spaces naturally introduced me even more to makeup and glam. I loved learning different techniques and experimenting with new looks. Over time, I began practicing on family and friends, and that passion slowly turned into something bigger.
As I got older, I started promoting myself as a self-taught makeup artist while also doing a little modeling in Kansas City. Modeling helped me build connections, gain exposure, and bring in clients who trusted me with their glam. From there, I continued perfecting my craft, growing my clientele, and building my brand through consistency, creativity, and faith.
Today, makeup is more than just beauty to me — it’s a way to empower people and help them see themselves differently. My goal is to continue growing as an artist, expand into my own beauty and skincare line someday, and continue walking into whatever opportunities God has planned for me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, but every challenge has helped shape me into the woman and artist I am today. One of the biggest struggles I faced was learning not to compare myself to other creatives. In the beauty industry, it’s easy to get caught up in competition or feel discouraged watching someone else’s journey, but I had to remind myself that what God has for me is meant for me. I learned that my focus needed to stay on perfecting my craft, growing my confidence, and trusting that the right clients and opportunities would come with time.
Another challenge was learning the business side of being a creative. Makeup artistry is so much more than just doing makeup — it’s professionalism, branding, marketing, communication, boundaries, and learning how to truly stand firm in your worth. Putting yourself out there can be intimidating, especially as a creative because your work is personal and you naturally become sensitive about it. But I made it a mission to push past fear, stay visible, and continue exposing my talent to new opportunities.
I’ve also been blessed to be surrounded by strong businesswomen in different industries who have taught me valuable lessons about entrepreneurship, professionalism, confidence, and resilience. Their guidance helped me grow not only as an artist, but as a businesswoman.
On top of that, balancing motherhood, a full-time corporate career, and running my makeup business has been one of my biggest learning experiences. Becoming a new mom changed my perspective on everything, especially time management and self-care. I’ve had to learn how to balance multiple roles while still making time for myself and protecting my peace. It’s still a journey, but every obstacle has taught me something valuable and continues to push me closer to the vision I have for my future.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a self-taught makeup artist who specializes in a wide range of makeup artistry, including natural glam, bridal, photoshoots, special events, creative looks, and even special effects makeup. I love the versatility of beauty because it allows me to bring different visions to life while helping people feel confident and empowered. Makeup is truly an art form to me, and I’m always looking for ways to continue learning, growing, and perfecting my craft.
One of the things I’m most proud of in my journey so far is becoming a finalist for the Kansas City People’s Choice Awards for Best Makeup Artist. That moment meant so much to me because it represented years of hard work, consistency, faith, and believing in myself even during difficult moments. To be recognized by my city and supported by my clients, friends, and community was incredibly rewarding.
I think what truly sets me apart from other makeup artists is the experience I try to give my clients beyond just makeup. When someone sits in my chair, I want them to leave feeling beautiful both with and without makeup. I believe words are powerful, and I always try to speak life, confidence, and positivity into my clients because you never truly know what someone may be going through behind closed doors. That one-on-one connection means everything to me.
I also genuinely want to see others win. I believe there’s room for everyone to succeed, and I take pride in uplifting others while continuing to build my own brand. I put my heart into my work, and I think people can feel that energy and authenticity when they work with me.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5–10 years, I see the beauty industry continuing to evolve into something much bigger than just makeup. People are becoming more focused on self-care, skincare, authenticity, and using beauty as a form of self-expression and confidence. Social media and digital content are also changing the industry every day, creating more opportunities for creatives to build their own brands, connect with larger audiences, and collaborate with major companies and celebrities.
As for myself, I see my career growing on a much larger scale. I envision moving to a bigger city, opening my own storefront, collaborating with celebrities and other influential creatives, and eventually launching my own makeup and skincare line. I want my brand to represent beauty, confidence, luxury, and empowerment.
I also see myself attending major events, walking red carpets, and continuing to build a name for myself in the beauty industry while doing what I genuinely love. Most importantly, I want to inspire others along the way and show people that with faith, consistency, and hard work, it’s possible to turn your passion into a successful career and lifestyle.
