Today we’d like to introduce you to Morghan Borders.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey has honestly been a mix of service, creativity, and relationships. When I first started doing makeup, I was actually working as a Sales & Marketing Director in senior living. Even then, my work was centered around helping people, building trust, and supporting families through important life transitions. Looking back, a lot of those same skills naturally carried over into the beauty industry too.
Makeup started as something creative I genuinely enjoyed doing for friends, family, and special occasions. Over time, word of mouth grew, social media connected me to more people, and it slowly turned into a real business. What kept people coming back wasn’t just the makeup itself, but the experience. I’ve always wanted clients to feel comfortable, confident, and still like themselves when they sit in my chair.
That mindset really shaped my style and my brand. I love soft, elevated beauty that enhances people instead of covering them up. Everything I create is rooted in making luxury beauty feel personal, approachable, and tailored to the individual.
As the business continued growing, I’ve been fortunate to hit some really meaningful milestones along the way. In 2025, I was honored to win Best Makeup Artist through the Kansas City People’s Choice Awards, and in 2026, I was recognized as an honoree at the Women’s Entrepreneurs and Influencers Brunch alongside so many incredible women in the community.
This year, I also serviced my largest bridal party to date with 14 women, which was a huge moment for me because I was able to bring on and contract two additional artists to help support the glam team. It was one of those experiences that reminded me how much the business has grown from just me doing makeup on friends to now coordinating and leading larger bridal services.
I’m also really intentional about continuing my education and elevating the experience I provide to my clients. Last year, I attended The Makeup Show Houston to continue learning from some of the best artists and brands in the industry and stay current on techniques, products, and client experience.
Today, I’m still growing, learning, and evolving both personally and professionally, but at the core of everything I do is still the same goal: helping people feel seen, supported, and confident.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. I think one of the biggest challenges was learning how to build a business while still balancing a full-time career and other responsibilities. For a long time, I was working in demanding people-centered roles during the day while also trying to grow my business after hours, on weekends, and in between everything else. There were a lot of long days, late nights, and moments where I questioned whether I was doing enough or moving fast enough.
Another challenge was learning how to value my work and set boundaries. In the beginning, like a lot of artists, I said yes to almost everything because I was trying to build experience and credibility. Over time, I had to learn that growth also means protecting your time, raising your standards, and understanding the value of the experience you provide — not just the makeup itself.
The beauty industry can also be overwhelming at times because trends change constantly, social media moves fast, and it’s easy to compare yourself to other artists. I had to learn how to stay grounded in my own style and focus on the clients I’m meant to serve instead of trying to keep up with every trend or version of success online.
There have also been normal business challenges behind the scenes that people don’t always see — slow seasons, investing back into products and education, managing burnout, balancing creativity with the business side, and learning how to lead as opportunities got bigger. Even something like servicing my largest bridal party this year with 14 women came with pressure and responsibility because I wanted everything to run smoothly while coordinating additional artists and maintaining the level of service my clients expect.
But honestly, every challenge helped me grow. I think the struggles taught me how to adapt, communicate better, trust myself more, and build a business that actually feels aligned with who I am instead of trying to fit into what I thought success was supposed to look like.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What I do really sits at the intersection of service, confidence-building, and transformation; just in two very different industries. Professionally, I work in workforce development and career coaching, where I help people navigate career transitions, prepare for employment, and build confidence as they move into new opportunities. A lot of my work focuses on helping people feel prepared, supported, and capable during moments that can honestly feel intimidating or uncertain.
On the beauty side, I’m a professional makeup artist specializing in soft glam, bridal, and elevated natural beauty. I’m known for creating looks that still feel like the client — polished, timeless, and photo-ready without feeling heavy or overdone.
I think what connects both sides of my work is people. Whether someone is sitting across from me for a career coaching session or in my makeup chair before a major life moment, my goal is still the same: helping them feel seen, confident, and supported.
What I’m most proud of is the trust people place in me. In workforce development, I’ve been able to help scholars transition into careers that can genuinely change the trajectory of their lives, especially in healthcare and technical training pathways. Watching someone go from uncertain about their future to employed and confident in themselves is incredibly rewarding.
In beauty, I’m proud of how organically my business has grown through relationships, consistency, and client experience. Winning Best Makeup Artist through the Kansas City People’s Choice Awards was a huge milestone for me because it reflected support directly from the community. I’m also proud of continuing to invest in education and growth, whether that’s attending The Makeup Show Houston, expanding into larger bridal parties, or continuing to refine the experience I provide.
Now, as a Mobile/Travel Makeup Artist, I get to bring that personalized luxury experience right to my clients! My clients with young children don’t have to worry about getting a sitter, or getting them dressed and ready to lave the house. Travel time? Not a concern for my clients because I bring the beauty them! That has been a game changer with bringing in new clientele and maintaining my current client base.
I think what sets me apart is that I lead with empathy first. Both industries require technical skill, but people remember how you made them feel. I’ve built my reputation around creating experiences where people feel comfortable, cared for, and confident — whether that’s preparing for a wedding day, a job interview, or a completely new chapter in life.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Honestly, my background in sales taught me early that relationship building is everything. Whether I’m working in workforce development or beauty, the topic of conversation may be different, but the foundation is still the same — people, trust, and connection.
What’s worked best for me is being genuine, staying consistent, and putting myself in rooms where I can learn and connect with others. Networking doesn’t always have to feel transactional. A lot of opportunities come from simply building real relationships over time.
I also believe there’s a lot of power in who you know, not just what you know. Skills matter, but relationships, reputation, and how you treat people can open doors you never expected.
