Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackenzie Markley.
Hi Mackenzie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Linked By Love started from a mix of creativity and connection. As a pediatric nurse, I’ve always been drawn to meaningful moments and the relationships that shape our lives. I discovered permanent jewelry and instantly fell in love with how it could turn those moments into something tangible and lasting.
What began as a small idea quickly grew as I started sharing it with friends, hosting pop-ups, and connecting with my local community in Kansas City. I loved seeing people celebrate friendships, milestones, and even just themselves through something so simple yet meaningful.
I’m still in the early stages of growing Linked By Love, but it’s been so rewarding to build something that brings people together. My goal has always been to create not just jewelry, but an experience—one that feels personal, memorable, and rooted in connection.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many small businesses, one of the biggest challenges has been growing something from the ground up while balancing a full-time career as a pediatric nurse. Time management and learning how to wear both hats has definitely been a learning curve.
Another obstacle has been building brand awareness. As a newer business, it takes time to get your name out there, build trust, and create momentum—especially in a niche like permanent jewelry. There have also been moments of navigating things like supplier changes or pricing shifts, which can impact how I run the business.
That said, each of these challenges has pushed me to be more creative, resourceful, and intentional. It’s been a process of learning as I go, and I think that’s also what makes it so meaningful.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Linked By Love?
Linked By Love is a permanent jewelry business based in Kansas City focused on creating meaningful, lasting pieces that celebrate connection. We specialize in custom-fit, clasp-free jewelry that is welded directly onto the wearer—meant to be worn daily as a subtle reminder of the people and moments that matter most.
We also offer semi-permanent options with clasps for added flexibility. This is especially helpful for those with medical or professional needs—like healthcare workers—who may need to remove their jewelry at times but still want something meaningful and intentional they can wear regularly.
What sets Linked By Love apart is the experience. Each pop-up or appointment is intentionally interactive and personal, whether it’s friends getting linked together, couples celebrating a milestone, or someone choosing a piece for themselves. It’s less about jewelry alone and more about the meaning behind it.
My background as a pediatric nurse has deeply influenced the heart of this business. It’s taught me the importance of presence, care, and connection in everyday moments, which is something I strive to carry into every interaction.
At its core, Linked By Love is about turning meaningful moments into something lasting and wearable—celebrating relationships in all their forms.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
For me, mentorship and networking have really come down to being intentional and genuinely curious about people. I’ve found that the best connections usually start organically—through shared spaces, conversations, or simply showing up consistently in my community.
A big turning point for me was saying yes to local events and pop-ups, even when I was still figuring things out. That’s how I’ve met other small business owners, creatives, and people who have really encouraged and supported me along the way.
I’ve also learned that mentorship doesn’t always have to be formal. Some of the most valuable guidance I’ve received has come from casual conversations with people a few steps ahead of me who are willing to share their experience. I’ve found that being open, asking questions, and following up has made a big difference.
What’s worked well for me is focusing less on “networking” in a transactional sense and more on building real relationships. When you lead with authenticity and genuine interest, those connections tend to grow naturally into something meaningful and long-lasting.
