Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Kimura.
Hi Kyle, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a family of physicians. My mother was an oncologist, my father an allergist, and my grandfather a pediatrician. So, from an early age I was drawn to medicine and the special relationships they built with their patients over time. That sense of trust was something I always knew I wanted to be a part of.
I attended medical school at the University of Kansas, where I initially thought I would pursue oncology. During my clinical rotations, however, I fell in love with surgery. I was drawn to the combination of technical precision and creativity required to excel. That ultimately led me Vanderbilt, where I completed a residency in Head and Neck Surgery, followed by a fellowship in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Stanford.
After training I was excited to ultimately return to Kansas City and start my practice in facial plastic surgery, bringing everything I’ve learned over the last decade back to provide the highest quality care for patients in my community.
One of the things I love the most about facial plastic surgery is the variety and the complexity of each case. Whether I’m performing reconstructive surgery after skin cancer or aesthetic procedures such as rhinoplasty, eyelid surgery, or face and neck lifts, the goal is always the same: to create results that are balanced, natural, and long-lasting.
My philosophy is centered on refined, timeless outcomes rather than anything that feels trendy. The goal is not to look “done, but to enhance what is already there in a way that ages well over time. I take a highly individualized approach and don’t project a single aesthetic onto every patient. Instead, I see the consultation as a collaborative process to understand each patient’s goals and ensure we’re the right fit for one another.
Many of the patients I see are thoughtful about their decision and are looking for subtle, high-end results without drawing attention to the fact that surgery was performed. Being able to combine that level of detail, artistry, and long-term patient relationship is what makes the work especially meaningful to me
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a perfectly linear path. Early on, I didn’t match into medical school on my first attempt and spent a year working in an emergency department. In hindsight, that experience was invaluable and reinforced my commitment to medicine and gave me perspective that still shapes how I approach patient care today.
During training, I initially planned to pursue academic medicine and was deeply involved in research and innovation, publishing in medical journals, presenting at national conferences, contributing to book chapters, and authoring an NIH grant proposals. While that path was incredibly rewarding, my wife and I made the decision to return to Kansas City to be closer to family.
In doing so, I found that private practice allowed me to be more intentional in how I care for patients offering a more personalized, high-touch experience with a focus on quality, outcomes, and long-term relationships. Looking back, it was absolutely the right decision.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?

Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
For fiction, I’ve always been a fan of Michael Crichton. I didn’t realize until later that he went to medical school and even wrote under a pseudonym during training. It’s also interesting that ER was loosely inspired by his experience at Harvard Medical School.
For non-fiction, I tend to gravitate toward authors like Jim Collins and Michael Lewis, especially around leadership, decision-making, and high performance.
One podcast I enjoy is All the Hacks, which covers practical ways to improve different aspects of life, from productivity to health to finance.
