Exploring Life & Business with Michelle King of The Dementia Journey Companion

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle King.

Hi Michelle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I have worked since 2003 in healthcare focusing on Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care. In early 2026, I lost what I thought was my dream job due to a company wide restructure. What was heartbreaking, catapulted me into starting my own Dementia Navigation consulting business and The Dementia Journey Companion was born.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There is a huge need for my services. Alzheimer’s and Dementia is the 6th leading cause of death and it is a health crisis. From a new diagnosis, to caregiver coaching, to engagement strategies, the need for help is complex. From the start my road has been paved by encouragement and an amazing network.

As you know, we’re big fans of The Dementia Journey Companion. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We provide personalized support, resources, guidance, and strategies that honor each person’s history, abilities, and dignity. Our focus is on helping individuals and families navigate the dementia care journey with clarity, compassion, and confidence. You are not alone and we are here to guide you along the way.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
While there are great strides in new treatments and early detection, I do think families and individuals will continue to need guidance along this journey. This disease is very personalized in that no diagnosis looks the same so the need for ongoing help will be there. One day very soon we will have a cure.
Moments over days, Dementia is a journey!
