Exploring Life & Business with Phillip Wolff of Jingle Bros Holiday Light Installers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Phillip Wolff.

Hi Phillip, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Jingle Bros started in 2020 while I was coming out of the tech world working in startups. That first year was very small—we decorated just a handful of homes as a way to make some extra money during the holidays. What started as a simple seasonal side project quickly showed us there was much bigger potential.

As we continued growing, we noticed a clear gap in the market. Many companies treated holiday lighting as a small add-on service, but homeowners—especially those with higher-end properties—were looking for something more professional and turnkey. We decided to lean into that opportunity and focus on delivering a premium, full-service holiday lighting experience.

In 2023, we decided to go all-in on the business. Since then, Jingle Bros has doubled in size every year and now serves around 300 customers across Kansas City, from the Plaza to Leawood. As we’ve grown, we’ve also expanded beyond holiday lighting into event lighting for weddings and special events. We recently launched a sister company, Wolff Outdoor Lighting, which provides high-end, sophisticated landscape lighting for many of the same clients we already serve.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like many service businesses, one of the biggest challenges early on was learning how to scale quickly while maintaining a high level of quality and customer service. Holiday lighting is a very compressed season, so everything—from hiring and training crews to scheduling installations—has to happen in a short window of time.

Another challenge was shifting from what started as a small seasonal side project into a real, structured business. That meant building better systems, investing in equipment and inventory, and learning how to manage rapid growth as demand increased.

Because we focus on higher-end homes, our customers expect a very polished and reliable experience. That standard pushes us to constantly improve our processes, communication, and overall service. While those expectations can be challenging, they’ve also been one of the main drivers behind our growth and the reputation we’ve built in the Kansas City market.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Jingle Bros is a full-service holiday lighting company based in Kansas City that specializes in high-end residential and commercial holiday displays. We handle everything from design and installation to maintenance, takedown, and storage so our clients can enjoy the holidays without worrying about the work behind it.

From the beginning, our goal has been to elevate what people expect from a holiday lighting company. Many businesses treat holiday lighting as a small seasonal add-on, but we built Jingle Bros around delivering a premium, professional experience. That means thoughtful design, high-quality materials, and clear communication with clients from the first quote all the way through installation and service.

Today we serve around 300 customers across the Kansas City area, from the Plaza to Leawood, and continue to grow each year. As our customer base expanded, we realized many of the same homeowners were also looking for high-end outdoor lighting solutions that could enhance their homes year-round. That led to the launch of our sister company, Wolff Outdoor Lighting.

Wolff Outdoor Lighting focuses on sophisticated landscape and architectural lighting designed to highlight the beauty of a home after dark. While Jingle Bros transforms properties during the holiday season, Wolff Outdoor Lighting allows those same homes to stand out the other eleven months of the year. Growing Wolff Outdoor Lighting is a major focus for us as we continue expanding our services and bringing elevated outdoor lighting design to more homes across Kansas City.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was always interested in building things and figuring out how businesses worked. I’ve always had a pretty entrepreneurial mindset and was naturally drawn to projects where I could create something from scratch and watch it grow over time.

I was also very interested in technology and startups, which eventually led me into the tech world early in my career. That experience taught me a lot about innovation, problem-solving, and scaling ideas quickly.

Looking back, a lot of those same traits still show up in what I’m doing today. I enjoy building brands, creating systems that improve the customer experience, and finding ways to turn simple ideas into something much bigger. That mindset is really what helped turn a small holiday side project into what Jingle Bros has become today, and it’s also what’s driving the growth of Wolff Outdoor Lighting as we continue expanding.
