Hidden Gems: Meet Angela Walters of Quilting Is My Therapy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Walters.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started my quilting career many moons ago with the help of my husband’s grandpa. He patiently taught me the art of quilting by helping me make my first 9-patch quilt that’s still on my bed today! In the years since then, I’ve added author, teacher, and fabric designer to my resume. My goal is for everyone who loves quilting to have a place to express their creativity.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road was not even a thought in my mind when beginning. It was never meant to be a business, but then I started quilting for customers which led to teaching classes and then writing books and then it spiraled into a whole thing! When you see somebody who quilts or sews, you think they must have always known how to do that…and that’s not the case. I failed the sewing machine test, like, twice in Home Economics growing up. I was not a sewer!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Quilting Is My Therapy is dedicated to helping quilters build confidence through approachable, skill-building education. Founded by renowned machine quilter and educator Angela Walters, we are best known for breaking down free-motion quilting into clear, manageable steps that remove the intimidation factor so many quilters feel!

We specialize in free-motion quilting instruction through a blend of free and premium resources, including Angela’s widely loved YouTube tutorials, quilting challenges, patterns, fabrics, and hands-on classes. Our teaching philosophy centers around the saying “finished is better than perfect”, meeting quilters where they are and helping them move forward one stitch at a time.

Brand-wise, we are most proud of the community we’ve built with our audience. Everything the QIMT team creates is designed to be genuinely helpful, approachable, and rooted in real experience, not just theory.

At our core, Quilting Is My Therapy exists to empower quilters to finish more quilts, try new techniques with confidence, and rediscover the joy that brought them to quilting in the first place.
