Conversations with Lindsay Torres aka Ruby Red

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsay Torres aka Ruby Red.

Lindsay Torres aka Ruby Red

Hi Lindsay, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been creative most of my life. I was always in my room modeling in front of my mirror, being artistic, & singing karaoke out loud. My mom and Dad always told me I could do anything I set my mind to, and fostered my creativity from a very young age. School growing up was difficult for me, because I was bullied relentlessly for my weight and picked on regularly by my peers, but art and music kept me going. I was 2nd in Missouri All Conference for singing a German Opera and I finally graduated high school by the skin of my teeth in 2001 from the alternative school I attended. I spent most of my time at home after that and had miscellaneous jobs here and there, but nothing stuck and my only escape from being depressed was my hobbies…My mom was very big on me following my dreams…Unfortunately, I suddenly lost my mom in 2021, but I swore after she died, that somehow, I would use my own creative strengths and abilities to do something I’ve always dreamed of doing. So I started modeling!!! I took courses and am an certified online in modeling, and have been published 15 times in various publications, as well as on 2 billboards in Times Square, New York City. On November 26th of 2024,, everything changed…I went into the ER with a “swimming headache”, and an hour later I am being wheeled back to have what they call a burr hole surgery, which only 20% of people survive…I called my husband and told him I loved him, then went back into the surgery room…I was scared…they shaved off half of my hair and drilled a hole in my head to remove a 9 centimeter hematoma from the right side of my brain… If I had gone 2 more days without treatment, I wouldn’t be alive or be talking to you now. Today, I live in Independence, MO with my hubby, my dog Kuzco, and my cat, Kitty Kitty Boo Boo Fitty Fitty Foo Foo ( yes, thats her real name!) I spend most of my days working on my various hobbies, the most important ones being my modeling, art, and my music!!! I love meeting new people and trying new artistic techniques!!! I hope to spread a positive message to this world, to show people that you can achieve anything, no matter who you are!!! Be a good person, love Jesus, and the rest will fall into place on its own!!!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I struggle with mental health issues, as I’m pretty sure do most people these days…I have never had a smooth road, i was mercilessly teased growing up and I’ve had depression and bipolar disorder for most of my life…however, I’ve taken those awful things people would say or do to me and turned them into constructive ways to express myself using my unique set of hobbies and skills.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a local model/ artist/ Singer with dreams of her image/voice being famous someday…I love people, & social media allows me to share my art and work with all walks of life. Ive never really had a chance to be seen locally, so this article is a nice change of pace.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
They say the risk is worth the reward, but I say it depends on the risk and whether the reward is something that can benefit you in any way.
