Check Out Beth Hill’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Hill.

Hi Beth, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
A Space for Strength: Why WOMAN.Fitness Had to Exist

It didn’t start with a single, grand idea. It was a lot of small moments stacking up until I couldn’t ignore them anymore. The truth is, WOMAN.Fitness was born out of personal frustration and a realization about how underserved women are in the health and fitness world.

My journey began when my own women’s gym closed its doors. I could have driven farther to another location or joined a co-ed facility, but neither of those felt right. I’d grown weary of the corporate fitness ideals that often treat members as mere numbers or bodies to be “fixed.” I needed a space built with women in mind—a place where I could thrive.

At the same time, I was quietly struggling with overwhelming changes: perimenopause symptoms, a painful recurring injury, and an overall feeling of being “off” in my own body. I desperately missed lifting, feeling strong, and being proud of what my body was capable of.

As I began to learn more, the problem became crystal clear: most health and fitness research—from exercise protocols to medications—is centered on men. This is fundamentally inadequate, as women’s physiology is distinct. We have different average heart sizes, blood volumes, and ways we tolerate work. When you factor in stages unique to women—pregnancy, postpartum recovery, pelvic floor health, and the many phases of menopause—it’s obvious that we require more thoughtful, individualized care.

For a long time, I felt the only way to truly help people was through medicine or nursing, but that path wasn’t realistic while raising a family. I didn’t think I had the stamina for medical school, and I still needed to be present for my children. What I eventually realized is that I could make a profound impact outside of a hospital. I could help people achieve better health by helping them become more fit.

Building a Welcoming and Real Space

Before WOMAN.Fitness was even a concept, I felt isolated, trying to navigate my body, health, and emotions mostly on my own. I soon discovered I wasn’t the only one quietly doing the same thing.

My vision for WOMAN.Fitness was guided by what I knew I didn’t want: not just one-size-fits-all workouts, no rigid schedules, and no limited class styles. Women are not the same, and our training shouldn’t be either.

What I did want was a welcoming and real space. A place where women could talk about the things we usually don’t discuss in a gym—periods, cramps, pelvic floor issues, pregnancy, breastfeeding, and menopause—without feeling awkward or judged. A place where strength means independence, confidence, and feeling capable in your own body.

This focus on the whole woman is what sets us apart. Community matters to me just as much as movement, which is why the WOMAN Wall is central to our gym. It’s a way for members to connect with other women—professionals, business owners, and caregivers—so we can support each other beyond workouts. None of us are meant to do life alone.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The Roadblocks and The Commitment

While the goal has remained steady, the road to opening has certainly had its bumps. We secured the location easily, but the demolition and rebuild of the former dentist and optometrist offices have taken far longer than anticipated.

I am using this unexpected time to learn more about coaching and women’s health. Last summer, I completed a nutrition certification and I just completed the Girls Gone Strong Women’s Coaching Specialist Certification. I am beginning the NASM course to become a certified personal trainer and I’ve enrolled in the GGS Pre and Post Natal Certification course. I plan to complete a menopause certification when it opens in June. This dedication ensures that WOMAN.Fitness is founded on specialized, women-centric knowledge.

My biggest current struggle is finding female certified personal trainers I can afford to hire and pay a living wage. Running a new small business while navigating proposals to raise the minimum wage is a serious challenge to maintaining adequate staffing. I’m also tackling the steep learning curve of social media, quickly working to update the WOMAN.Fitness Instagram page with proper captions and Calls To Action after realizing I’d been posting incorrectly for the first 90 days. I’m determined to learn it all!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Beyond the Weights: Our Vision

While I spent most of my adult life as a stay-at-home mom, I have a long-standing drive for creating and coordinating. Before children, I worked in banking and small business administration. Now, my unique experience—coordinating all the logistics of family life and seeing the value in that—guides the heart of WOMAN.Fitness.

My mind is always buzzing with ideas for ways to support our members beyond fitness. In the next year, I hope to launch:
A Members’ Library: Where women can privately check out books on sensitive or intimate topics without feeling embarrassed.
A Dress Closet: A program for middle school and high school girls to “rent” homecoming and prom dresses affordably.
A Program for Young Girls: Focused on combating body shaming, which often begins at a very young age.

What keeps me steady through the doubts is the knowledge of how many women need this space. This gym needs to exist because women deserve a place where they can get stronger, feel healthier, and realize they’re not the only ones feeling the way they do. I truly believe that when women are supported—in their bodies and in their lives—everything changes.

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
How to Support Our Mission

The WOMAN in WOMAN.Fitness stands for Word Of Mouth And Networking. Honestly, the best way to support us is to spread the word. Bring a friend or two to work out with us.

I would love to connect with other female small business owners for collaborations, especially those in health-related fields, but any partnership that builds our network is welcome. As we nurture this new business, we’re eager to work with local businesses—perhaps partnering with restaurants for healthy meal or snack options, or hosting meal planning seminars to empower our members with healthier food choices. The possibilities are truly endless!
