Rising Stars: Meet Cindy Curd of Lee’s Summit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Curd.

Hi Cindy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
When my children were in elementary school, our family relocated to Lee’s Summit, Missouri, for my husband’s career. At the time, I had just closed my business in Kansas and found myself at a professional crossroads—searching for something new that would allow flexibility while my kids were still young.

As it often happens, opportunity came in an unexpected way. The broker who helped me divest my office space reached out and suggested I consider earning my real estate license. My response? “Sure, why not?” What began as a practical decision soon evolved into something much more meaningful.

I initially stepped into commercial real estate, but it didn’t take long to realize it wasn’t the right fit. I was craving connection. I wanted to help people reach personal milestones, to witness the excitement of a growing family finding the right home, or the relief of empty nesters stepping into a new chapter. I wanted to be part of something that felt personal and lasting.

Fast forward 21 years, and that instinct proved right. I’ve built a thriving residential real estate business rooted in relationships. Many of my clients return again and again, trusting me with life’s biggest transitions and referring friends and family along the way. Over the years, I’ve gained insight not only into market trends and home construction, but into people—their lifestyles, their dreams, and sometimes their complicated family dynamics. Every transaction tells a story. Every home reflects a life in motion.

That love of storytelling led to my next unexpected opportunity. When I was invited to become a host for American Dream TV representing Kansas City, I immediately knew it was something I wanted to pursue. The idea of spotlighting people who are living their dreams—entrepreneurs, small business owners, families building meaningful lives in the Midwest—felt like a natural extension of what I’ve always loved about real estate.

Through this platform, I have the privilege of sharing the heart of our community with a national audience: the homes that define our lifestyle, the businesses that strengthen our neighborhoods, and the individuals whose stories deserve to be told. It has been an incredible joy to help amplify those voices, and I look forward to many more opportunities to celebrate the people and places that make our region so special.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Oh the the real estate market of 2007-2010 was tough! I was blessed to be a part of a wonderful networking group. I know I would not be in business today if I had not had their support. At that time, I also learned how to be successful selling short sale homes. Learning those negotiating skills has served me well in many areas of my business. I do suffer from boredom for sure…so extra challenges and learning how to overcome them always gives me encouragement.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
So I would not call myself artistic or creative, but I do wish I was! American Dream TV has given this very rational, thought processing, problem-solving woman and outlet to have fun. It is my joy to showcase others and allow the editors to make them shine. I have learned to use quite a bit of editing software myself to try to create some short films…with limited success, but each one builds my confidence!

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
Learning and doing new things makes me happy. At my heart, I am an adventurist. In practice, I am a suburban wife (love that), mom (love that too), and grandmother (love that even more!). I have found that each stage of life brings an opportunity for a little bit of reinvention. I am grateful that my husband and I have achieved a life where we are truly happy and understand the blessings that we have. I am so happy that I now have time to celebrate and serve others. Of course, I get a huge charge out of seeing other people happy. It has served me well, both as a Realtor and as an ADTV host.

Challenges make me happy too. I have real estate licenses in Kansas and Missouri, where I strive to meet the goals of each of my clients. Generational referrals are pure joy because it gives me the opportunity to know my clients even better. I recently obtained my Arkansas Real Estate License. Our family has a lake home there, and I am looking forward to introducing others to the fabulous lake lifestyle that is to be had at Beaver Lake
