Inspiring Conversations with Meghan Masten of Moonlit Management

Today we’d like to introduce you to Meghan Masten.

Hi Meghan, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started Moonlit Management out of a desire for flexibility and autonomy over my time. As a single mom raising two young children largely on my own, the traditional corporate structure often lacked understanding or compassion for the realities of parenthood. With limited external support and the full weight of parenting responsibilities on my shoulders, appointments, sick days, and caregiving were viewed as unreliability when in truth, they were simply reflections of my priorities.

While navigating this season, I came across a Virtual Assistant course and quickly realized that much of my experience as a Speech Therapy Facilitator – coordinating virtual therapists, managing systems, and supporting operations for elementary schools – translated seamlessly into the world of business operations. Moonlit Management was officially born in October 2024, and by January 2025, I began intentionally putting myself out there, offering backend support to business owners so they could spend more time doing the work that truly lights them up, just as operations lights me up.

Interestingly, around the same time my role was eliminated due to the end of virtual therapy services, I signed my first client, affirming that I was on the right path. Today, I have the freedom to show up fully for my family, honor my own needs, and build a business that aligns with my values. The growth over the past year has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m excited to see what’s ahead.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely not—it hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many entrepreneurs, I’ve navigated imposter syndrome and the vulnerability that comes with putting yourself out there and facing potential rejection. Building a business requires time, focus, and consistency, and doing so while raising two young children on my own has often meant long nights and learning to work in the margins of my day.

That said, the flexibility to grow Moonlit Management on my own terms has made every challenge worth it. Being able to choose when and how I invest my energy has allowed me to stay present for my family while steadily building something meaningful and aligned with my values.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Moonlit Management?
Moonlit Management is an operations-focused virtual assistant business that supports service-based entrepreneurs behind the scenes, allowing them to run their businesses with more ease, clarity, and confidence. I specialize in backend operations, campaign planning, logistics, and email copywriting, particularly the kind of communication that feels clear, human, and aligned with a brand’s values.

What I’m most often recognized for is my ability to step into a business and quickly understand how everything connects. Clients have shared that they’ve been searching for someone with my skill set, someone who can think operationally, anticipate needs, and execute with care and competence. I genuinely enjoy working in systems and workflows, keeping things organized, and making sure nothing falls through the cracks so business owners don’t have to carry that mental load.

What sets Moonlit Management apart is that I don’t just complete tasks. I act as a true support partner. I bring an intuitive, big-picture approach to operations and treat every business I work with as if it were my own, honoring each client’s mission, values, and vision. I offer both retainer and project-based packages, and my goal is always to alleviate the stress and uncertainty that often come with delegation.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the trust I build with my clients. Moonlit Management is grounded in reliability, alignment, and thoughtful support. While I don’t position myself as a high-end graphic designer, my strength lies in creating structure, clarity, and momentum, so business owners can focus on the work that lights them up, knowing their backend is in good hands.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
I wouldn’t describe myself as a natural risk-taker, but I’ve learned that taking calculated risks is a big part of putting yourself out there as a service provider. If you don’t stick your neck out, people won’t know about your skills or what you offer. I’ve felt the sting of rejection and I tend to take it to heart, but each time I put myself forward, I also grow, whether that’s pitching a potential client, sharing my work publicly, or starting a business from scratch.

For me, the biggest risk I’ve taken was leaving a stable, corporate role to start Moonlit Management while raising two young children on my own. It was scary to step into the unknown, not knowing how quickly I’d find clients or how it would all balance with parenting, but it was a risk worth taking because it gave me the opportunity to build something that aligns with my values and my life. I’ve learned to live by a simple mantra that I tell my kids often: be scared and do it anyway. Risk, I’ve discovered, isn’t about being fearless; it’s about moving forward despite uncertainty.
