Community Highlights: Meet Jon Edlin of Edlin Tornado Solutions, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jon Edlin.

Hi Jon , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
In 2020, my family was hit by an EF3 tornado. My kids were 5 and 7 years old, and we were living in Nashville in a home with no basement. When the tornado hit, we huddled in the hallway as it passed directly over us, violently pulling us back and forth. I remember the exact moment I thought we were going to be sucked out of the house—then suddenly, it stopped. Somehow, we were all okay.

The hours that followed were pure chaos. It was 1 a.m. 911 wasn’t answering. Glass was everywhere. Parts of our walls were gone. We desperately searched for basic necessities—our dog’s leash so she wouldn’t cut her paws or run off, our keys, wallets, flashlights, anything we could find. In that moment, I realized how unprepared we were. I remember thinking, I wish I had packed a tornado go bag.

Since then, I’ve shared this story in many venues, primarily while speaking about overcoming adversity. I recently released a book, The PSI Method, which explains how I worked through that experience and others like it.
Whenever I speak about adversity, I always include my tornado story—and I started noticing a pattern. After almost every talk, young dads would come up to me and ask the same question: How do I keep my family safe during a tornado?
That’s why I started Edlin Tornado Solutions.

We soft-launched in October 2025, with an official launch on March 9, 2026. Edlin Tornado Solutions is primarily an educational service built on one simple philosophy: keep the cookies on the bottom shelf—make preparedness accessible, clear, and doable for everyone.

I teach a six-session online course on tornado safety that covers everything I wish I had known before the tornado and everything I learned afterward.

Through this work, we also identified the number one unmet need: a tornado go bag that’s truly ready to use. Most people know they should have one—but they don’t. And many survival kits on the market would have been frustrating, even harmful, in a real tornado scenario. They’re packed too tightly, wrapped in plastic, and filled with things you don’t actually need after a tornado—like three days’ worth of food. After a tornado, the grocery store down the street is usually still open. I respect the preparedness industry, but in the case of tornadoes, it can sometimes be more overwhelming than helpful.

The Edlin Tornado Go Bag includes only the essentials:
A heavy-duty lantern (batteries already installed and ready to use)
A first aid kit with extra gauze
A high-quality, made-in-America whistle
A printed tornado survival guide
Access to the six-session online tornado safety course

We also offer consulting services to help individuals and organizations choose the tornado shelter that best fits their needs.

The go bag itself is a sturdy, high-quality backpack with dedicated pockets for wallets, keys, medications, and a laptop—plus enough room to add your shoes. The idea is simple: during a tornado watch, you pack your go bag. This reduces your kids’ storm anxiety and gives you the ability to help your family—and even your community—if the unthinkable happens.

At Edlin Tornado Solutions, we guide families through tornado preparedness with clarity, compassion, and expertise—because when storms approach, peace of mind makes all the difference.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’ve spent years helping other people tell their stories—working video shoots, sitting in TV studios, setting up lights, tearing down kits, making sure the brand was represented the right way. From my first job out of college supporting a bestselling author, to leading marketing teams, to countless shoots along the way… I was always the one making it happen, not the one on screen. But now it’s different. Now, my business depends on me telling my story.

Last week I flew to Miami to film a documentary about my journey and the mission behind Edlin Tornado Solutions and it reminded me why this matters so much. This story isn’t about attention. It’s about impact. It’s about helping young families feel prepared, protected, and at peace knowing they have a plan.

The documentary and Edlin Tornado Solutions will save lives.

And if being in front of the camera helps that message reach even one more family, then that’s exactly where I’m supposed to be.

Sometimes stepping into the spotlight is uncomfortable and a struggle of me, but I know it’s worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of Edlin Tornado Solutions, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
