Conversations with Brody Sanson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brody Sanson.

Hi Brody, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a third generation electrician. My father and grandfather both owned their own electric companies, so I learned the electrical trade from an early age. I tagged along with them, helping assemble ceiling fans, install receptacles, switches, etc. As I got older, going through school, I always had a part-time job available working with the two of them.

I attended the University of Central Missouri and graduated in December of 2008 with a Bachelors of Science Degree in Criminal Justice with a minor in Spanish. I immediately was accepted in to the 89th Recruit Class of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. I was a State Trooper in Clay County, Missouri for approximately 9 1/2 years. During that time I was promoted to the rank of Corporal and served on the Troop A SWAT Team for seven of those years. While employed with the Missouri State Highway Patrol I continued working with my father and grandfather as secondary employment. In 2017, I obtained my Master Electrician License, and created my own company, Sanson Electric II.

In 2018, I made the decision to leave the Missouri State Highway Patrol and continue my career in the electrical industry. It was a very difficult decision leaving what had become a second family to me. However, I still remain in close contact with all of those who I worked closely with while on the SWAT Team and the road.

Since taking the leap of being self-employed, I have considered myself very blessed to have the opportunities that come my way. It has allowed me to be more a part of my children’s activities and day to day lives. I have also had the pleasure of building a great customer base of wonderful clients who I rely on to spread my name via word of mouth. When I created my company, I adopted the Core Values of the Missouri State Highway Patrol: Integrity, Responsibility, Respect, Professionalism, Compassion, and Resourcefulness. These Core Values were instilled in me while at the Patrol and became who I am as a person and contractor.

I am entering my 9th year since creating my company. Each day I go to work, with the opportunity to help those with electrical needs, troubleshoot and solve electrical enigmas, and meet great new people along the way.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Each day presents its own unique obstacles or challenges. The ability to be resourceful, adapt and overcome is important if you want to be successful in this field. While a “smooth road” is always a great day, a struggle or unexpected event while on a job is seen to me as an opportunity to learn from.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in Electrical Service Changeouts/Upgrades (Meter/Panel Upgrades), Service Calls (Commercial/Residential), New Construction (Small Commercial), and some Sign and Lighting. I would like to think I’m known amongst my customers for the quality of work I provide, as well as the honest and professional manner in which I provide it. I treat every job as if it were my own. While I am not one to tell someone how to spend their money, I will not hesitate to inform a customer if I feel the project/goal may not be cost effective. This coincides with one of my Core Values, Integrity. I believe the way I conduct myself and my work, is what separates me from the rest.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
The success of my company has not been accomplished by me alone. Having a strong wife who stood behind me when I decided to walk away from a career which I thought I wanted to be since I was a child, was paramount in helping me make that decision. My father Gary Sanson (S&M Electric) and Grandfather Jerry Sanson (Sanson Electric) were both pillars of my education and knowledge, as well as helped pave the path for me to continue it in the future. Growing up I saw how my grandfather developed relationships with his customers and the respect they all had for him. In November 2020, my grandfather passed away from health complications after an emergency heart surgery. While it was difficult losing him, it brings comfort in knowing that he is watching down on me as I attempt to carry on his legacy with the same care and dedication that he gave his customers.
