Lacy Duffett on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Lacy Duffett shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Lacy, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I usually wake up before my kiddos—though not always, since I have a five-month-old who sometimes wakes early and joins me. I start my morning with red light therapy and a quick pumping session (I’m a breastfeeding mama myself). From there I continue to ease into the morning before the rest of the house is awake. I read a devotional and do some quick journaling: what I’m grateful for, my goals for the coming week and months, and a to-do list that covers both life and business.
Next, I check in and respond to messages from the families I’m currently supporting. Somewhere in the middle of all this, I’m sipping my pre-workout—because as a tired mom of three, no workout is happening without a little extra energy! I wrap up the first 90 minutes with a quick 30–45 minute workout. That routine sets the tone for my entire day—it allows me to fill my own cup before jumping in to take care of everyone else.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Lacy Duffett, the owner of Happy Latch Lactation Co. I’m a mama to three beautiful girls, a wife, a registered nurse, and an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. When I’m not homeschooling my kids or supporting other families, you can usually find me feeding my sourdough, sipping a coffee, reading a good book, or fitting in a quick workout.
At Happy Latch Lactation Co., my goal is to meet families exactly where they are on their feeding journey. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach to infant feeding, and parents deserve care that honors their goals, values, and real life. My concierge lactation services are designed to offer ongoing, personalized support—not just a one-and-done consultation. My true passion is connecting with families prenatally, working with them through multiple visits and check-ins, and supporting them through the early months of life as feeding evolves and new challenges or changes in routine arise.
By combining clinical expertise with real-life experience, I help families create feeding plans that feel right for them and provide the tools and education needed to make confident, informed choices.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I was shy—I thrived in close-knit groups and never imagined I’d one day run my own company or work so intimately with families one-on-one. I’ve learned over time that this was never a limitation—it was a strength. It allows me to listen deeply, connect meaningfully, and stand firmly behind the education and support I provide. One of my biggest flexes now is the confidence I have in empowering families with knowledge and reassurance, and knowing I can show up fully for them without needing to be the loudest voice in the room.

When did you last change your mind about something important?
I last changed my mind about something important right before going on maternity leave a few short months ago. I took a hard look at how I was running my business and realized that the path I was on wasn’t sustainable—for me or for the families I wanted to serve. I started my business with the intention of building real rapport and meaningful connections, but the model I was using didn’t fully support that vision.
By shifting to a concierge-style, long-term support model, I’m now able to walk alongside families more deeply through the fourth trimester and the early months of breastfeeding. Just as importantly, it allows me to prioritize my own family without sacrificing the quality of care I provide. I’m certain that if I had continued down my previous path, burnout was headed my way quickly. Changing course gave me a business that aligns with my values—and the family life I deeply cherish.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say that my family comes first—always—followed closely by the deep care I have for my friendships and the business I’ve built. I’m very intentional about creating a life where work and family coexist in a way that feels aligned, whether that’s homeschooling my kids, structuring my work around our rhythms, or protecting time for the people who matter most to me.
They’d also tell you that I’m incredibly passionate about empowering mothers and families. I care deeply about helping parents feel confident feeding their babies and advocating for themselves throughout pregnancy, postpartum, and beyond. Supporting families during such a vulnerable and formative season is more than a job to me—it’s work that feels purposeful, personal, and worth investing in.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am 100% doing what I was born to do. The two things that hold the most space in my heart are my family and supporting—and advocating for other families walking a similar path. This work feels deeply aligned with who I am, not something I was told I should do, but something I’m naturally drawn to.
Becoming a mother only strengthened that clarity. It shaped the way I show up for families, the way I build my business, and the way I advocate for care that is informed, compassionate, and individualized. Supporting families during pregnancy and the early postpartum months is sacred work, and I don’t take that responsibility lightly. It’s where my clinical background, lived experience, and values join together—and it’s work I feel called to do every single day.
