Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaci Parker-Scott.
Hi Kaci, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I stepped into my first dance studio at six years old and immediately fell in love — with the discipline, the friendships, and the magic that only performing on stage can create. Dance quickly became the center of my world, and by sixteen I was living my dream, touring with a professional company and fully immersed in the industry.
That path shifted when a major injury led to hip reconstruction surgery and forced me to step away from performing. At the time, it felt like the end of everything I had worked toward. In reality, it was the beginning of something entirely new. Determined to find my way back into the studio, I taught my first dance class during my recovery — and in that moment, a new passion was sparked. I discovered that my true calling within the dance world was mentorship and coaching.
In May of 2024, I opened the doors to Parker Dance Collective with the goal of creating a space rooted in safe and sustainable teaching techniques. We prioritize our kiddos as humans first, and dancers second. Watching the studio thrive has been incredibly humbling, and it continues to remind me that sometimes the most meaningful paths are the ones we never planned — but were always meant to follow.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a business from scratch is rarely a smooth road, especially at a young age. One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced has been finding the courage to fully believe in myself and take the leap. While it was definitely intimidating at first, it has also been incredibly fulfilling. Learning the behind-the-scenes aspects of running a business has challenged me in new ways, and I’m deeply grateful for the growth and lessons that have come from building something entirely my own.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
At Parker Dance Collective, we offer a wide range of classes for dancers ages three through eighteen, with programs designed to meet dancers where they are and support their individual goals. Our competitive program is rooted in a pre-professional training environment, with a strong emphasis on technique and artistry, while also teaching real-world skills such as audition etiquette, professionalism, and how to carry oneself with respect and confidence — both on and off the stage.
Our recreational program is centered on fun, inclusivity, and community, providing a low-pressure space where young dancers can build confidence and simply enjoy movement. What I’m most proud of is the studio culture we’ve created — one that values kindness, character, and growth just as much as performance. That human-first approach, combined with well-rounded training, is what truly sets us apart.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
One of the things I love most about the dance industry is that it’s constantly evolving. Over the next five to ten years, I see a continued shift toward inclusivity and accessibility at every level. The dance world has a traditionally close-minded past, and this is a change that has been needed for a long time.
I’ve already seen many competitions and organizations take meaningful steps toward celebrating all dancers — not just the top placements, but every child who has the courage to step on stage. That focus on encouragement, individuality, and positive experiences is shaping a healthier future for the industry, and it’s a shift I’m excited to continue supporting.
