Check Out Katherine Williams’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katherine Williams.

Hi Katherine, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a young girl, I loved capturing the precious and fleeting moments in my life through photography. My photographs preserved the raw emotions I felt at a moment in time; and as a sentimental person, these photographs are one of the closest things to reliving those emotions that I had. Over the years, documenting my life through portraits has allowed me to create a time capsule of my most euphoric memories and stories and reminisce back on some of my life’s best memories. A lot of my favorite portraits hold emotions and experiences that I can never replicate like making cookies with my grandma every Christmas, graduating college, and witnessing all of my beautiful son’s first milestones. Photography was solely my hobby and outlet to be creative until my early twenties.

After graduating college, I was working in the social services field and loved my job serving children in the KC area. However, I always felt like something was missing and used photography to fill my cup in my free time. In 2022, becoming a mother truly illuminated my passion and drive for creating meaningful portraits of the special and mundane moments in life. I realized photography was my lifelong passion that I hadn’t fully committed to and started to pursue portraiture professionally while being a stay at home mom. Throughout this year, I documented the first milestones of my son’s life through portraits, connected with other creatives, and started creating my dream business.

In the past four years of my business, Katherine Williams Photography, I’ve had the privilege to document individuals, brands, couples, engagements, weddings, newborns, and families. I strive to capture the authentic emotions my clients feel in a moment and create heirloom portraits that they will look at with nostalgia for years to come. It has been an honor to create love letters in the form of photographs for my client’s most beloved experiences and every moment in between.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In the beginning, there was a learning curve with all of the ins and outs of the photography business and finding a good work-life balance. When you own your own business, your personal life can often fall to the back burner. Once you find a good system that allows you to accomplish all of your business goals and have personal time, both will prosper greatly!

I’ve had assistance from amazing mentors and fellow photographers, and I am forever grateful for their guidance. Along the way, I remember to focus on the things that are in my control and place trust in myself, my family, and God!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in lifestyle photography. My passion for documenting life’s best moments, extraordinary and mundane, all comes down to my love for love and cheering people on in every stage of their lives. Whether I’m creating with an individual, a family, a couple, or a brand, I want to document all the raw emotions and intimate moments as they are unfolding in front of me.

Being a firsthand witness to the love between a mama and her child, an individual radiating joy and accomplishing their goals, a couple that embodies love, a senior ready to take on the world, or a mama and her fur babies truly brings me so much happiness. I want my clients to enjoy their time and feel comfortable while I’m capturing their stories; if that is lovers running around a field, having a picnic, and laughing nonstop with their partner, an individual ready to launch their new brand and products they’ve worked so hard to create, or a family swinging their children around their yard, playing games, and making silly faces together – I’m here for it all!

If you want a photographer who truly wants to know you and your vision – I’d love to hear your story!

What were you like growing up?
As a child, I enjoyed time outdoors, taking care of animals especially kittens, documenting with disposable cameras and scrapbooking with the photos, playing sports, and spending time with my friends and four siblings. As the youngest sibling, I was pretty soft-spoken, but creative, happy go lucky, and comedic! I enjoyed when my older siblings let me tag along with them on adventures, especially my oldest siblings who were seven and nine years older than me.
