Today we’d like to introduce you to Kansas City Automotive Museum.
Hi Kansas City, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
About the Kansas City Automotive Museum

Through its Legacy in Motion initiative, the museum is planning a new 40,000-square-foot facility to provide
enhanced exhibitions, hands-on learning opportunities, and community engagement while preserving Kansas
City’s automotive legacy for generations to come.
Why Feature KCAM
A visually compelling museum with stories at the intersection of history, innovation, and culture—paired with
strategic growth and strong community relevance—making KCAM an ideal subject for magazine and long-form
editorial coverage.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like many museums today, one of our biggest challenges has been evolving alongside changing audience expectations while remaining true to our mission. We’re continually working to broaden our reach, introduce fresh programming, and create more engaging experiences that resonate with both longtime enthusiasts and new visitors. Those challenges have ultimately driven innovation, helping the museum grow in meaningful and sustainable ways.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
The Kansas City Automotive Museum opened in May 2014 and is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, charitable corporation. Currently located in Olathe, KS, our interim museum features more than 30 cars in a 10,000 square foot display space. Since opening, the Museum has become a recognized and popular establishment within the car community and has grown to be a meeting place for car enthusiasts, historians, club meetings, special events, and visitors to Kansas City. The museum highlights significant Kansas City automotive history such as 1965 Le Mans winner Masten Gregory (the “Kansas City Flash”), the Ford Winchester Plant, and Greenlease Cadillac.”
What are your plans for the future?
We are not shy about where we plan to go. We expect to have several thousand visitors per year standard and home-school groups from all over the region. With the upgrades to KC International airport, we foresee attracting most of the tourists who visit the city. Our partnerships with the area museums and car clubs ensure our attendance numbers will be out of this world.
The new museum building will not only bring the Museum into the center of the city, but will also provide the facilities to enhance our many programs. The Museum has proven its potential to bring a multitude of benefits to Kansas City, we just need to take the final step to give it the home it deserves.
We have outgrown our space and are embarking on the design and construction of a stunning new facility that will be four times the size of our existing museum!
Our vision is to create an immersive experience that celebrates the rich history of the automotive industry while showcasing the innovations that have shaped our world.
To support this exciting endeavor, we have launched the Legacy in Motion capital campaign. Your contributions will play a vital role in bringing this dream to life, allowing us to create a space that honors the past and inspires future generations.
