An Inspired Chat with Narendra Saraf

We recently had the chance to connect with Narendra Saraf and have shared our conversation below.

Narendra, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Yes!!!!!!! My thought process made me laugh and feel proud about myself. We all have been there. It was about my want. Again, it was about my want and not my need. As we all see new things around us that entice us to just go and buy impulsively, in hope that this purchase will give me a sense of satisfaction, make me feel good. So one of my friend bought a new iphone 17 pro max. I am still on model 13 pro that gave me an urge to upgrade to a new model and spend around $ 1300. This was the urge by my brain’s limbic system- emotional area of the brain however, my frontal lobe -the decision making area of the brain critically analyzed the scenario and calculated ROI- return on investment of the new phone and the answer was, it was not worth buying a new phone. In fact spending 1300 on a new phone would have caused more anguish since there was no need for it.

HenceI was able to evaluate need over want accurately and appropriately ,is what made me feel proud about myself.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello
My name is Dr. Narendra Saraf. I was born in India and moved to United States for education. I am an exercise physiologist, certified fitness trainer, fitness therapist as well as a physical therapist. I am also a Life Coach. I have been in health and fitness field for more than 25 years. Goal is to educate and motivate one soul at a time. Make people realize, life is a Journey and not a race. Also, my goal is to promote healthy society via spreading awareness about health education, diet and exercise. I am also an artist, my medium of choice is soft-pastels.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
One of my best childhood friend’s mother always believed in me. She is an extremely dynamic woman, I would rather call her a visionary. Dr. Bhagyashree Patil; Founder, chairman and Managing Director of Rise n Shine group of companies and Pro Chancellor; Dr. D.Y. Patil University, Pimpri, India. Before I could realize my own potential this dynamic visionary is the one who recognized my potential and supported me throughout my life. I always look at her as my beacon. I would not have accomplished these achievements without her support.
The lesson here is, never forget someone who believed in you and supported you to be successful.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I always say the core of the word life is “IF” . Whatever goes up , always comes down. Life is like a day and night cycle, there’s always going to be light followed by the darkness. Suffering is a part of life that will test your patience, it will test your relationships and this will teach you to adapt to difficult circumstance, it will improve your resilience. Once you know how to walk in the dark, walk in the light is piece of cake.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Where are smart people getting it totally wrong today?
The most important thing in life is people, connections you make, helping people around you, creating positive memories, being there for each other. People believe material things alone would create happiness for them. I have seen millionaires who are miserable and completely lack happiness, unable to sleep at night. Whereas I have also seen people who have no material things are being completely content with life. Hence, materialistic life style is not the sole key to happiness. Healthy-self, healthy family, healthy society will lead to a healthy nation. The take home message is, People are being more materialistic and selfish , that what is wrong with so called smart people.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
As I have already stated, we as a human being are social animals. A healtcare provider may be an expert in terms of providing an intervention, however the successful patient recovery is a partnership between a healtcare provider and a patient which is based on a solid foundation of trust. So If I retire tomorrow, my patients will miss that bond of trust which helped them get better, they will miss my approach of whatever it takes and them some! They will miss; positivity, genuine intensions to cure them.

No matter what profession or area of expertise you belong to, a genuine advice, genuine care or genuine approach to help someone will never go unnoticed.
