Daily Inspiration: Meet Jocelyn Malagon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Malagon.

Hi Jocelyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
The Lash Studio, formerly known as TOR Beauty, began in a small one-bedroom apartment.

What started as a quiet side hustle—simply a way to afford formula and diapers for my daughter—soon became something much bigger. It became my path to financial independence and the means to leave an abusive relationship.

In a short amount of time, that small operation grew into a brick-and-mortar business. A business that now supports my child, provides the lifestyle I once only dreamed about, and helps fund my pursuit of a bachelor’s degree. More than that, it became a platform to give back—pouring into women who are walking the same difficult road I once did.

The Lash Studio evolved into a full service space, home to four lash artists, a nurse practitioner, and a spray tan artist. Growth came quickly—faster than I ever imagined—and with it, responsibility, purpose, and impact.

None of this happened alone. I owe my success to my parents for their unwavering support, to the community who believed in me before the vision was fully formed, and above all, to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

What began out of necessity became a mission. And it’s only just getting started.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Prior to pursuing my formal education, I had no background in business. I had to learn quickly—and often the hard way.

At just 21 years old, I was forced into responsibility. I taught myself finances, marketing, operations, and the countless moving parts required to run a business. There was no blueprint—only determination.

Along the way, I learned something just as important: how to lead. Not only to manage a business, but to create a space rooted in safety, empowerment, and opportunity for others.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m known not only for my attention to detail and high standards within the lash and bridal industry, but also for building a business rooted in integrity, professionalism, and care. My work extends beyond beauty services—I am deeply involved in my community, particularly in supporting women navigating domestic violence situations and in advocating for women’s empowerment through mentorship, outreach, and service.

What I am most proud of is longevity. Keeping a business open and thriving for almost a decade—especially as a young, single mother who started with no formal business background—is no small feat. That kind of consistency comes from resilience, adaptability, and an unwavering commitment to growth.

What sets me apart is that my business was never built solely for profit. It was built with purpose. The Lash Studio is not just a place where women come to feel beautiful—it’s a space where they are seen, supported, and empowered.

How do you think about luck?
I believe luck has shown up in my life through people. Incredible employees who believed in the vision, stood by the business, and helped it grow with integrity. A supportive community that chose to champion a small, woman-owned business long before it became what it is today.

That said, luck only opens the door—you still have to walk through it. I’ve learned to recognize opportunity, work relentlessly, and build trust. The combination of hard work, faith, and the right people at the right time has been the greatest form of “good luck” in my journey.
