Community Highlights: Meet Chrissy Robben of Hexcode Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chrissy Robben.

Hi Chrissy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am what you would call an accidental entrepreneur. I didn’t have my sights set on building a business, I just had a few things fall together that pushed me along this path and I am thankful for it (otherwise it may not have happened). I started Hexcode Marketing in 2016, with a friend/ colleague of mine in a current agency. We had been doing some freelance projects together when I was approached by my first creative agency I worked at and asked if I would be interested in purchasing her agency as I was the only person she would trust her clients with. I turned to my partner and we jumped in head first, with the help of my supportive husband, caffeine, mentorship from my old boss, long hours and hard work we were able to retain her clients and start building some of our own.

After the first year, we moved out my basement, into a small office space. In year two, we hired our first employee and continued to grow through relationship building, determination, caffeine and continued hard work. We discovered a love for marketing as a whole, rather than focusing on website’s only as we originally planned. The connections that we were able to create, along with the ability to make changes and a bigger difference to a business by helping them in all aspects of marketing fulfilled our passions when it comes to not only creating beautiful marketing pieces but transforming and communicating for a business to help them reach their goals.

Fastforward to 2020, my partner and I decided we had different goals and vision for the company, so I bought her out and was able to double the size of the company in the that next year. Hexcode continues to grow and build, expanding from Wichita to Kansas City with our growth and focus on helping companies reach that next level of their business with a strategic approach that focuses not only on providing eye catching, scroll stopping design but also focusing on how all the platforms, print materials, touch points across marketing tell your companies story, cut through the AI slop and showcases an ROI on your investment.

Hexcode will be celebrating 10 years this July and we couldn’t be more excited about this journey and where we are going!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Smooth, I think every business has it bumps. For Hexcode, we have worked through a pandemic, partner buyout, turnover and client’s businesses up and downs but one thing that stays true is that every struggle, challenge or change has helped us to grow into the company we are today. Each bump in the road has it’s lesson and opportunity for growth which is how we build on each one.

As you know, we’re big fans of Hexcode Marketing. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Hexcode Marketing does more than create marketing materials and campaigns. We develop strategies across all marketing platforms that drive brand awareness and growth for businesses. Our team members have been recognized in the area for their exceptional marketing skills, and we have multiple campaigns that have won awards.

At Hexcode, we take pride in having experts in every corner. This means our team focuses solely on their area of expertise. We believe that when you can focus on one area of marketing instead of wearing a lot of different hats, you develop a deeper understanding of that piece of marketing, which gives our clients better results.

When we work with businesses, we don’t just care about the marketing. We truly care about the business achieving their goals and growing. There can sometimes be a disconnect when working with agencies that don’t invest in understanding the company, but we are in constant communication with our clients. We have monthly meetings to review analytics, we give regular updates throughout projects, and celebrate wins and milestones with our client’s. We don’t just become your marketing agency, we become an extension of your team.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I would say the most important lesson I’ve learned is to always be learning. There is a solution to every problem as long as you are willing to learn from the problem at hand and be open minded. Marketing changes every day so be open to the changes and move along with them learning every step of the way.
