Today we’d like to introduce you to Zack Bryson.
Hi Zack, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Olympic Yardworks began in 2023 in Port Angeles, Washington, originally under the name Woodscavengers. At the time, my wife and I were preparing to welcome our son, and what started as a small firewood and occasional tree-removal operation was really about creating something stable for our growing family. From day one, the goal wasn’t just to work for ourselves, but to build a business that could last and mean something to the people around us.
In 2025, we relocated to Independence, Missouri, which gave us the opportunity to grow in ways that simply weren’t possible before. With more space, more family support, and much higher demand for property and tree services, we rebranded as Olympic Yardworks and expanded into a full-service outdoor and property care company. Missouri allowed us to take on larger residential and commercial projects, as well as provide year-round services like storm cleanup and snow removal.
Today, Olympic Yardworks is truly a family operation. Our team includes myself, my wife, her brother, and my father-in-law. Together, we handle everything from tree removal and land clearing to lawn care, storm response, and winter services throughout Jackson County and the surrounding areas. Having a family-based team allows us to move quickly, stay accountable, and deliver a level of care that customers can feel in the final result.
Alongside our commercial work, we are also involved in community-focused projects. One of the most meaningful initiatives we are currently part of is the clearing and logging of a plot of land in Kansas City that will be transformed into a community garden and food-access space. A local nonprofit will be operating and managing the project, while Olympic Yardworks is contributing the land-clearing and site-prep work to help make the space usable for the community. The goal is to support a place where people will eventually have access to fresh vegetables and locally raised food in a neighborhood that truly needs it.
Looking ahead, we are also working toward launching a charitable arm of Olympic Yardworks. As the business becomes more established and sustainable, a portion of our profits will be set aside to help provide heavily discounted — and in some cases fully covered — services for elderly homeowners, widows, veterans, and families in underserved neighborhoods. We believe that taking care of people’s homes and properties is one of the most direct ways to support dignity, safety, and quality of life.
For me, the difference between a successful company and a lasting company is community. We want Olympic Yardworks to be more than just a service provider — we want it to be a trusted local partner that shows up, does the work right, and gives back where it matters. What started as a small firewood business in Washington has grown into a full-service property and tree care company in Missouri, and we’re proud to continue building something that we hope will serve families and neighborhoods for many years to come
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road to building Olympic Yardworks has not been smooth, but every challenge helped shape who we are today. One of the biggest turning points came when the owner of our rental home in Washington decided to sell. With housing costs climbing quickly, we found ourselves priced out of the rental market — especially while preparing to welcome our son. At the same time, my wife had long wanted to move back closer to her father in Missouri, so rather than give up on what we were building, we decided to take a leap and relocate.
The move itself was anything but easy. Our truck’s reverse went out, equipment broke down, and we had to make multiple long-distance trips just to retrieve our trailer, pack our home, and transport everything — including our newborn son and our pets — across the country behind a 2000 Chevy Silverado. It was a stressful and exhausting time, but we kept pushing forward because we believed in the future we were building for our family.
We’ve also funded Olympic Yardworks entirely through our own income and personal assets, reinvesting everything back into the company as it grows. There were no outside investors or safety nets — just a lot of long days, careful budgeting, and a willingness to bet on ourselves. Because of that, the quality of our work matters even more. When we do a great job, it directly supports our family and our community. If we ever fall short, we’re the ones who feel it. That level of accountability is built directly into how we operate, and it’s one of the reasons we take every project personally.
Those early challenges taught us to be resourceful, disciplined, and committed to doing things the right way. They helped create the foundation of Olympic Yardworks — a company built on responsibility, resilience, and a genuine desire to serve the people who trust us with their homes and properties.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Olympic Yard Works LLC?
Olympic Yard Works LLC is a full-service tree and property care company serving Independence, Jackson County, and the surrounding areas. We specialize in hazardous tree removal, storm cleanup, land clearing, and year-round property maintenance, including lawn care and snow removal. Our focus is on solving high-impact property problems safely, efficiently, and with a long-term mindset.
We’re especially known for taking on jobs that other companies either can’t or won’t — whether that’s storm-damaged trees, difficult access removals, large debris cleanups, or properties that need to be fully cleared and restored. We invest in the right equipment, safety systems, and planning so projects are handled professionally from start to finish.
What really sets us apart is how personally invested we are in every job. Olympic Yard Works is family-owned and operated, and we’ve built the company using our own resources rather than outside investors. That means the quality of our work directly reflects on us — there’s no corporate buffer between our customers and the people doing the work.
Brand-wise, we’re proud to be known as a company that shows up, follows through, and takes care of both the property and the people behind it. We want our customers to feel confident that when they call Olympic Yard Works, they’re hiring a team that treats their home, land, and business with respect and accountability.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
One thing that surprises a lot of people is how intentionally we think about the future of the business and how every job fits into a bigger system. Even though we’ve been open for less than six months, we already have a clear plan for scaling — including bringing on two to four full-time team members by 2027, starting with additional ground crew and an in-house accountant to keep operations tight as we grow.
Another thing people don’t always expect is how much value we pull from every tree we remove. When we show up to a job, we don’t just cut a tree and haul it away — we aim to use as much of it as possible. Anything suitable for lumber is milled on our own property or repurposed into firewood, while limbs and chipping material are processed into mulch or pellets. The goal is to reduce waste, get more value out of every project, and build a more sustainable and efficient operation over time.
That mindset — planning ahead, reducing waste, and building systems that scale — is a big part of what drives Olympic Yard Works and where we’re headed.
Pricing:
- Tree removal projects typically range from a few hundred to several thousand dollars, depending on size, access, and risk level.
