Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Wyrick.
Hi Cheryl, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have been a groomer in waldo since 1988. Been a business owner since 1998. I have always had a staff of wonderful, experienced groomers. I specialize in cats and Pomeranians. My groomers do the rest. We focus on smaller pets. We also have a non-profit rescue for Pomeranians on site. I started out in my youth at a vet as an assistant, went on to work at the Humane Society before learning how to groom. Waldo is my home away from home, and the community is so supportive of the pet industry.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the last ten years our biggest challenge has been the construction on Wornall. I think people avoided this stretch for a long time. Then, Covid shut us down for 8 weeks and that was when I became aware of just how many of our clients were there for us. They kept in contact, and many paid in advance for their grooming. Recently the construction has been finished and it looks amazing.
We have lost so many dogs to old age and passing. We need puppies!
We’ve been impressed with Pampered Paws Grooming Salon Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We strive to give the pet (and the client) the best experience possible. We make the pet look and feel great along with fulfilling the expectations of the owner. We say “comfort over vanity” which means if a dog, or cat has mats we don’t try to demat (which can be risky, and painful) we use the clippers instead. We want the pet to enjoy grooming, and it be more of a spa day. Most of our dogs love us and are excited to come in the door.
We also like to coach people about nutrition, and the effects on coat and skin. Cheryl is a certified esthetician, and we love to help our furry friends be as healthy as possible.
We also have ” all inclusive” pricing. If we quote a price, it includes everything. We don’t have add-ons.
Our specialty is small dogs and cats.
We recently got an award from our google reviews! It’s actually the second year in a row.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I am active in the waldo community, we have meetings and activities that offers resources, and networking.
