Check Out Katie Feuerborn’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katie Feuerborn.

Hi Katie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey with photography began long before motherhood, back in high school when I joined the yearbook staff. That’s where I first fell in love with storytelling through a lens. I loved the way a single image could capture emotion, connection, and belonging. I followed that passion to college, majoring in graphic design at Pittsburg State University. This is where photography continued to tug at my heart.

After graduation, I worked in graphic design and photography in Overland Park, loving the creative process but quietly wondering what else was waiting for me. Then my husband surprised me with a mirrorless camera in 2021. Truthfully I had just about sold all my gear and called it quits. I had just welcomed my first daughter, Evelyn, and motherhood had changed me in ways I couldn’t put into words. I almost gave up photography because I didn’t think I could balance being both a mom and a business owner. Like, pursuing this passion would some how make me less of a mom.

But Evelyn changed that story.

She reminded me why I picked up a camera in the first place — to remember. To slow down. To see the beauty in everyday life. I wanted her to grow up knowing her mom could do hard things, chase her dreams, and still be present for the moments that matter most. And that’s how Evelyn & Co. Portraits was born. Named after the little girl who inspired me to create a life where passion and motherhood could coexist. The Co. represents my other babies that bring me so much joy everyday,

Today, I photograph motherhood in all its forms. From the quiet anticipation of maternity to the sweet chaos of family life. My goal is to create more than just beautiful images; I want to tell your story in a way that feels like you. The soft moments, the gentle connections, the tender in-betweens that make up your family’s story.

Because one day, these photos will be your reminder of what it felt like — not just what it looked like.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like anything, there are always struggles and challenges. I think its important to choose intentionally what is worth struggling over. Choosing the hard that feels purposeful. Trying to constantly tip the scales of motherhood and career will always be challenging but its a challenge worth pursuing. Letting my kids see me strive for something great and meaningful while also learning to never give up on your dreams is a blessing. I hope one day they look at my art and say “wow, mom really loved what she did”.

There are seasons where I need to be more focused on my family and other moments that I need to put in time and love on the business. Creating space to have both is important. Making sure you set boundaries and know what your prioritizes are make it so much easier. I like to leave evenings and weekends for my family, but that also means I need to put in time after they all go to sleep at night or during naps on the weekends. Occasionally I bring my babies to shoots where they can play or I can baby wear and I think that’s even more beautiful. Being able to weave my real life in with my passion.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a luxury portrait photographer specializing in maternity, newborn, and family photography, with a focus on connection and storytelling. I work primarily with new and growing families, documenting the quiet, meaningful moments that often pass too quickly. Focusing on moments like soft glances, tiny details, and the natural interactions that make each family unique.

What I’m most known for is creating an experience that feels just as intentional as the final images. From wardrobe and styling guidance to designing heirloom albums and artwork, I walk my clients through every step so they feel supported, confident, and present during their session. My work is rooted in simplicity and emotion, with an emphasis on images that feel timeless rather than trendy.

What I’m most proud of is the trust families place in me to document some of the most tender seasons of their lives. Many of my clients return year after year, allowing me to tell their story as it unfolds. Starting from pregnancy to newborn days to growing families and that continuity is incredibly meaningful to me.

What truly sets my work apart is my approach. As a mother myself, I understand how fleeting these moments are and how vulnerable these seasons can feel. I create a calm, thoughtful environment where families can slow down and simply be together, knowing that their memories are being preserved with care. My goal is always to create images that don’t just show what this season looked like, but remind families of how it felt.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
The advice I would give is to block out all the “noise”. Don’t scroll social media too much looking at other photographers and where they are. All of us can take a picture but its YOU who sets everything a part. How you interact with your clients, the feeling you give them during the session. Its all you.

I would also tell you that its okay to try something, figure out it doesn’t work and move forward. There truly is no right way to run a business. There is so much trail and error. You will also likely evolve your business where it looks and feels different than when you started and thats okay too.

Just believe in yourself.
