Community Highlights: Meet Kimberly Reece of S&K Reece Construction, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberly Reece.

Hi Kimberly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Founded in 2006 with the hands‑on experience of building our own personal home, our company grew from a single project into a passion for craftsmanship and thoughtful construction. What began in the Branson, Missouri area—where we spent years creating custom and spec homes—evolved significantly in 2013 when we relocated to Kansas City and shifted our focus to multi‑family commercial work. Starting with punch services and backout support, we steadily expanded our capabilities and our reputation. Today, our company’s portfolio includes multi‑family commercial projects, residential remodeling, and a wide range of commercial scopes, all anchored by our specialization in finish carpentry and millwork. Nearly two decades later, the same commitment to precision, integrity, and quality that shaped our first home continues to guide every project we take on.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many construction companies, our journey hasn’t been without its challenges. The housing market crash of 2008–2009 significantly slowed the demand for custom and spec homes, prompting us to make the difficult decision to relocate and seek new opportunities within the industry. That shift ultimately led us to Kansas City and into multi‑family commercial work. Years later, COVID brought a different kind of disruption. Because our punch services rely on stepping in after framers move on to their next project, the slowdown in building meant framers suddenly had the time to complete their own punch work, reducing the need for our services. Instead of standing still, we adapted—expanding into residential remodeling and strengthening our focus on finish carpentry and millwork. Each challenge pushed us to evolve, diversify, and ultimately become a more resilient and well‑rounded company.

As you know, we’re big fans of S&K Reece Construction, LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At the heart of our business is a simple philosophy: build for every customer the same way you would build for yourself. It’s a principle Sonny learned early on, starting his construction career at just 14 years old under the guidance of craftsmen he deeply admired. Their influence shaped not only his skill, but his commitment to precision, pride, and doing the job right—whether the project is large, small, simple, or complex. My own background has always been in office management, and together we combined our strengths to create a company that reflects both sides of the industry: hands‑on expertise and organized, dependable professionalism.

Today, we specialize in finish carpentry and millwork, offering cabinetry, trims, molding, rod and shelving, interior door installation, and a range of residential and commercial services. What we’re known for—and what we’re most proud of—is the quality of our work and the dedication we bring to every project. We may not always be the lowest bid, but our clients know they’re getting craftsmanship, communication, and reliability that simply can’t be matched. Our brand is built on integrity, experience, and a genuine love for what we do, and we want readers to know that when they hire us, they’re choosing a team that treats every project like it matters—because to us, it truly does.

Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
What we love most about this area is the strong sense of community we feel from the people we work with every day. Living in Cleveland, Missouri gives us the best of both worlds—being part of the Kansas City metro while still enjoying that peaceful, rural feel that fits who we are. Kansas City folks take real pride in their city, and it shows in everything from how they support local businesses to how they rally behind their teams. Being lifelong Chiefs fans from South Missouri, it’s been an exciting time to be part of this community.

Before settling here, we lived in Overland Park, and while we appreciated the convenience of city living, we’ve always been country at heart. Building our home in Cleveland gave us the space, quiet, and connection to the land that we truly love. If there’s anything we like “least,” it’s simply that growth sometimes brings busier roads and a faster pace—but even then, the people make it worth it. One of our business mottos is that we built our company on a handshake, and around here, that still means something. Our word is our biggest asset, and we’re grateful to live in a place where that kind of integrity is valued.
