Inspiring Conversations with Jose Guerra of Tucker Chiropractic

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jose Guerra.

Hi Jose, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From an early age, Dr. Jose Guerra knew he wanted to be in health care. His path, however, was shaped not by textbooks, but by personal experience. In sixth grade, he suffered a ruptured appendix that led to multiple hospital stays totaling nearly a month. A few years later, as a student athlete, he underwent surgery for a sports hernia. Being immersed in the medical setting at such a young age left a lasting impression and planted the seed for a future in health care.

Originally from Dallas, Texas, Dr. Guerra moved to the Kansas City area after high school with the opportunity to play collegiate soccer at Maple Woods. He continued his academic journey on a pre-med track at the University of Missouri–Kansas City, fully intending to pursue medical school. That plan changed when he faced his own unexpected health challenges. After emergency room visits, medications, and multiple cardiology consultations, his primary care physician recommended something unfamiliar at the time: chiropractic care.

Until then, Dr. Guerra had never seen a chiropractor and knew very little about the profession. That changed after meeting Dr. Kevin Tucker, who would later become both a mentor and colleague. Through chiropractic care, Dr. Guerra began to feel “normal” again—his symptoms improved, his function returned, and eventually, he was able to come off medications he once depended on. More importantly, his philosophy on health and healing fundamentally shifted.

He came to believe in treating the body from the inside out—identifying the root cause of dysfunction rather than masking symptoms. While he recognizes that there is a time and place for many forms of care, he strongly believes patients deserve the opportunity to pursue conservative, corrective care first.

This new direction led him to Cleveland University–Kansas City, where he completed his Bachelor of Science in Human Biology and earned his Doctorate of Chiropractic. He went on to practice for three years as an associate chiropractor in a multi-doctor clinic in Lee’s Summit, gaining the clinical experience and confidence needed for the next chapter of his career.

In October of 2024, Dr. Guerra joined Tucker Chiropractic, practicing alongside his mentor. The clinic has served the Blue Springs community for over 31 years, and Dr. Guerra is proud to help carry that legacy forward for decades to come.

Today, his passion lies in helping patients understand how their bodies work—especially the role of the nervous system—so they can take an active role in their health. He works with athletes, busy professionals, and families alike, always with the same goal: helping people get back to doing what they love.

Outside the office, family comes first. With three young children, life is full of dance classes, sports practices, art classes, and community events. Dr. Guerra and his wife enjoy supporting local youth sports, small businesses, and the Blue Springs community they proudly serve.

At the heart of his work is a simple philosophy: care with purpose, lead with integrity, and treat every patient like family.

Adjust with intent—because healing happens here.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not. Building up a patient base takes time and most importantly, trust. Trust from the community. Patients have to trust you with their care. Also, when practicing elsewhere and then moving, you are basically starting all over again, so building up a base not once, but twice has it’s challenged. But the challenges are worth the journey.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Tucker Chiropractic?
We have been serving the Blue Springs community for 31 years. I am currently working with Dr. Kevin Tucker (owner) with the intent of serving the Blue Springs community for another 30+ years. I don’t “pop” or “crack” your back, I adjust with specificity. There is a big difference in just “popping” every bone in your back, to that of adjust precisely and specificity to the vertebral area that is cause the most stress on your nervous system. Although the adjustment as gentle, when needed a “heavier hand” is needed you will get it. We also have shockwave therapy in our practice that has been helping tons of patients with nagging chronic pain. Our office flows smoothly and effectively to where even the most busiest patient can be in and out of our office quickly so that way YOU can get back to living life. NOBODY wants to be in a doctors office for 30+ minutes. We like to say, we always have a minute. We can always get you in. Same day, next day, whenever works best for you.

What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I think when I learned or realized that my “why” has been to help other people be able to do “their why”, that’s when practice changed for me. It’s when the patient can feel you’re “energy” when they walk into your office. It is about THEM the patient not me, the doctor. And that is why I adjust with intent. The intent behind the adjustment is so important.
