Community Highlights: Meet Beth Potter of Drover Fence

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Potter.

Hi Beth, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Growing up in Northwest Missouri, I was raised by my father after losing my mother to breast cancer. My father was a successful realtor and small row-crop farmer, and I spent much of my childhood outdoors as a proud “daddy’s girl.”

At the age of 23, I became one of the youngest women in the United States to undergo a double prophylactic mastectomy with reconstruction. Since then, I have remained actively involved in helping women navigate life with the BRCA gene.

I have been married to my husband for 20 years, and together we have three beautiful daughters. During my early career, I was fortunate to spend several years at home raising my children. Once they were in school, I returned to the workforce at a local insurance office.

A customer and family friend later asked me to assist with his fencing company while I continued working in insurance. I balanced both roles part-time and quickly discovered a passion for working outdoors, meeting people, and recognizing the growing demand for quality fencing in our area. Within six months, I committed full-time to the industry and began formal training, attending fencing school and earning multiple certifications through the American Fence Association.

After seven years in the industry, I took the next step and founded my own company as a Missouri Woman-Owned Business. I believe the core of any successful business lies in kind-hearted, hardworking people who take pride in craftsmanship and remain committed to doing the job right

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been an easy road. One of the greatest challenges I have faced is being taken seriously. As a woman in the construction industry, I am often questioned. Earning respect has required persistence, which is why I have placed a strong emphasis on continued education and leading by example through hands-on work. I have worn every hat in my business—operating equipment, welding, digging holes, tamping posts, and managing daily operations

As you know, we’re big fans of Drover Fence . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We offer a wide range of fencing and gate solutions, including commercial, residential, custom gates, livestock, and agricultural fencing. We are known for our expertise in custom gates and small-acreage properties. Our focus is on craftsmanship, innovation, and attention to detail in every fence we install. Most importantly, we strive to make doing business with us simple and seamless.

How do you think about luck?
I don’t believe in luck; I believe in hard work, discipline, and maintaining a positive mindset. There have been many times when others did not believe in me, but those moments only strengthened my resilience to negativity and pushed me to become more focused and productive—ultimately leading to new opportunities.
