Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Lauren Gonzales of Kansas City

Lauren Gonzales shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Lauren, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Would I hire myself? Yes, I would.
I would hire myself because at my core, I believe that our clients, and the relationships we form are some of the most valuable relationships there can be.
Anyone can make money being a photographer, anyone can learn how to use a camera or run a business, but it takes someone who truly cares to make a genuine connection and I believe that’s what I do with my clients, and the people I get the chance to work with.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Lauren Gonzales. I own Lauren G Photography. I am a Wedding and Lifestyle Photographer based in Kansas City!
For me Lauren G Photography has always been more than just a career—it’s been a lifelong passion.
I’ve been in love with photography since I was little. Growing up, I was always drawn to the art of storytelling through images, and that fascination blossomed into what would become Lauren G Photography.

Specializing in weddings and lifestyle photography, my work isn’t about stiff poses or forced smiles. It’s about capturing the true, raw emotions of my clients—the little moments that define their stories. “I want my work to look natural and authentic.” I don’t force emotion. I want people to feel like they’re right back where they were when we took the photo.

One thing that sets Lauren G Photography apart in a saturated market is my deep, genuine care for my clients. I take every photo with purpose and intention, always focused on the bigger picture of what those moments mean for the people I’m working with. I believe in building relationships and making genuine connections with everyone I work with. It’s not just about the photos—it’s about making my clients feel comfortable, heard, and seen.

In a world of countless photographers, standing out was no small feat for me, especially as a self-taught artist. I started in a crowded field, and I had to find ways to distinguish myself. It took time, but I realized that my voice—my unique perspective—was in the authenticity of my work. Over time, my ability to connect with my clients and capture their true selves became my defining signature.

Whether I’m photographing a couple on their wedding day or capturing the intimate moments of a family gathering, my goal is always the same: I want my clients to look at their photos and smile, to relive those special moments, and to have fond memories of the time we shared together.

We as photographers are tasked with being time keepers, and to me that is such a gift to be able to do that for people. Photography is more than just a job it’s a way to tell stories, build connections, and preserve memories for years to come. Every image I capture is a piece of a larger narrative—one that is as authentic as the people in front of my lens.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
When I became a mother. I was so excited and so scared. I remember feeling so much pressure, and wondering if I would do a good enough job, but then this overwhelming peace came over me the minute I met my first born. I loved her immensely, and immediately instinct kicked in and I became “Mother”.
After I went through the process of labor and delivery, and going home and healing and really getting into a routine being a new momma, it really showed me how amazing we as women are and how strong and capable our bodies are.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I think I would say “You can be successful, and you will make a difference”

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I think the biggest lie the wedding industry tells you is that you have to have it all together and everything needs to be perfect.
IT DOESNT. It just needs to be authentic.
We as artists and wedding professionals are here to capture you. and YOU are enough!

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
I feel most at peace when taking photographs. There is something so therapeutic about freezing time. I love to see new things and visit new places and meet new people. I feel most at peace when I’m with my camera.
