Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Hayden.
Hi Kayla, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started doing photography when I was in high school- I was briefly in the yearbook staff my junior year. After I got to college, where my initial plans were to go into education, I found that it wasn’t the right fit for me and changed my major to photography. That was where I stayed for the remainder of college! After that, I started doing whatever gigs I could get my hands on. Eventually my best friend was working for a music venue in KC and asked me to come onto their list of concert photographers as they didn’t have many after Covid. That was where I discovered my love for concert photography. The rest is history!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. As a lot of artists do, I’ve doubted myself and my craft more times than I can count. I wake up some days not knowing if I’m on the right path, if I’m doing what I was meant to do, etc. I’ve wanted to give up so many times. When things get slow, it’s easy to feel like you’re not good enough or not doing enough. I have to remind myself of my accomplishments often. The friends I’ve made doing this are also such a massive support. They never let me feel like I’m not good enough
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in concert and music photography! If I had it my way, that’s what I would be doing for my full time career. I also do portraits, families and weddings, events and even product photography. I am known for my concert and music photography though. I am most proud of my work there. I think what sets me apart is my unique way of showing the audience what I see when I go to a concert or performance. You know the feeling of when you leave a concert and everything feels magical and out of this world and you can’t wait to go do it again as soon as possible? That’s the feeling I want my photos to portray.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Every summer, my family and I would travel to our relatives place for a big carnival and parade and family reunion. I was the highlight of my summers
