Conversations with Kyle Keeports

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Keeports.

Hi Kyle, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m a business owner, community advocate, and conservation-minded outdoorsman based in Oak Grove. I own and operate Keeports Remodel, where I take pride in delivering quality craftsmanship, honest work, and hands-on leadership on every residential and commercial project. Building trust with my clients and turning houses into homes is at the core of what I do.

Beyond my business, I’m the founder of Muddy Duck Waterfowl, a nonprofit organization built around my passion for the outdoors, conservation, and giving back. Through Muddy Duck Waterfowl, I focus on hunter education, safety, and introducing youth and new hunters to ethical hunting practices. My goal is to help preserve the future of waterfowling while passing on strong values, respect for the land, and a love for the outdoors to the next generation.

Whether I’m on a jobsite or in a duck blind, I believe in working hard, leading by example, and making a positive impact in my community that lasts.

I didn’t have the opportunity to hunt waterfowl at a young age—no one around me was into it. Growing up, I spent most of my time fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks with my grandfather and great-grandfather. Those long days on the water, learning patience, respect for nature, and the value of time spent together, are some of my fondest memories and helped shape who I am today.

I was introduced to waterfowl hunting in my early 20s by a close friend who had been asking me to come along for several years. Once I finally said yes, everything changed. What started as a simple invitation turned into a passion that quickly became one of the greatest sources of joy in my life outside of my family. There’s something special about early mornings, shared effort, and time spent in a duck blind that can’t be replicated anywhere else.

I started Muddy Duck Waterfowl not only to focus on the outdoors, but to be present for my community. My hope is to give others the opportunity I didn’t have growing up—to experience the pure joy of sharing a duck blind with a few good friends, learning from one another, and building lifelong memories along the way.

From the beginning, Muddy Duck was built on a simple mindset: what if introducing youth to conservation, hunting ethics, and the outdoors could help shape who they become? I believe that time spent outside teaches responsibility, patience, teamwork, and respect—for the land, for wildlife, and for each other. If we can help guide even a few young people toward a more positive path through conservation and mentorship, then this mission is worth every ounce of effort.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Overall, getting started was fairly straightforward. The most challenging part wasn’t the work itself, but getting the mission out into the world while starting from absolute ground zero. Building awareness, earning trust, and reaching the right people takes time and consistency, especially when you’re asking others to believe in something you’re still building. But that challenge has also been one of the most rewarding parts of the journey, watching the mission grow as more people connect with it and support what Muddy Duck Waterfowl stands for.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Some of the things we focus on include getting youth and first responders into the outdoors, providing them with opportunities to disconnect, reset, and experience everything the outdoors has to offer. We’re also working toward offering scholarships that support our community by investing in leaders who have a passion for helping others and making a positive impact.

What I’m most proud of isn’t just the programs or events—it’s the work we’re doing in the community and, more importantly, the strong group of people who stand behind Muddy Duck Waterfowl. The men and women who support MDW share the same heart for service and give their time and effort selflessly. Being surrounded by people who are driven to serve alongside me is what truly makes this mission special

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
My family pushes me every day to be my best, keeping me grounded and focused on what truly matters. I’m also continually learning and growing through our church, where I’m challenged each week to serve others better and live out those values in everything I do. That foundation of faith, family, and service drives both my work and the mission behind Muddy Duck Waterfowl.
