Today we’d like to introduce you to Joseph Ruby.
Joseph, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Joseph Ruby didn’t follow a traditional path into construction—and that’s exactly what shaped his perspective.
Growing up, Joseph was labeled dyslexic, ADHD, anxious, and depressed. School never matched the way he learned. But hands-on work did. He learned by doing, by watching, and by making mistakes—lessons that ultimately became his education.
“I didn’t go to college,” Joseph says. “I paid my tuition in real life.”
That education came with a price. Over the years, Joseph estimates he lost hundreds of thousands of dollars learning how to operate within commercial construction—through missteps, poorly structured partnerships, and trusting people without proper contracts. While costly, those experiences shaped the principles he operates by today: accountability, structure, and transparency.
Joseph grew up in Kansas City, Kansas, where responsibility came early. Becoming a father at 17 pushed him into the trades, starting with vinyl siding. Unlike many who enter construction through sales, Joseph began in installation—learning the work from the ground up.
That foundation gave him a rare vantage point. As he moved into subcontracting and later commercial construction, he saw patterns that troubled him: inflated pricing, misleading sales tactics, and skilled installers being underpaid and undervalued. Too often, poor compensation led to rushed work, failed installations, and voided warranties—leaving homeowners to absorb the cost.
“I saw how the system breaks down,” he explains. “When installers aren’t respected, quality suffers. And when quality suffers, homeowners lose.”
Joseph also learned hard lessons about partnerships. On multimillion-dollar projects, verbal agreements and misplaced trust left him undercompensated despite carrying major operational responsibility. Those experiences reinforced his belief that integrity must be paired with formal agreements to protect everyone involved.
After stepping away from commercial construction, Joseph took a sales role in another market. That move exposed him to aggressive home-improvement sales models—high-pressure tactics, inflated pricing masked as discounts, and products sold based on commission rather than necessity.
“That’s when I knew I couldn’t operate that way,” he says. “Profit matters—but honesty matters more.”
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Joseph’s career hasn’t been smooth, but it has been grounded in responsibility. He supported his family through major life transitions, including divorce, and later took full custody of his children. Through it all, he continued working, learning, and refining how he wanted to operate.
One of his strongest beliefs today is that craftsmanship and fairness should outweigh labels or shortcuts. He believes an even playing field benefits the entire industry—where bids are won based on knowledge, execution, and integrity, not loopholes or optics.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Today, Joseph runs his company with a clear philosophy: everyone involved matters.
He handles sales, while skilled subcontractors handle installation. Rather than treating crews as expendable labor, Joseph views them as partners. Installers set their own pricing, reflecting their experience and expertise.
“These are craftsmen,” he says. “Just because someone didn’t go to college doesn’t mean their work isn’t valuable. Mastery in the trades takes years, and it deserves respect.”
Having spent years installing himself, Joseph understands the pressures subcontractors face. By prioritizing fair pay and mutual respect, he believes quality becomes the natural outcome.
His goal is straightforward:
• Transparent pricing
• Skilled craftsmanship
• Fair compensation
• Long-term solutions for homeowners
“There’s more than enough work to do this right,” Joseph says. “I don’t want to be the loudest voice in the room. I want to be proof that you can succeed without cutting corners.”
