An Inspired Chat with Regina Daniel of Kansas City

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Regina Daniel. Check out our conversation below.

Hi Regina, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
At one time, when I was younger, I felt I needed to walk a path. But as age and hindsight comes, I’ve realized I don’t have to stay the path. I can wander and still get where I’m going. Now that I wander, I have more varied opportunities arising, than I did on any path.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Regina Daniel. I started this journey when I got into urban exploration. Through exploring abandoned buildings, I have learned so much history, seen places I never would have before, met so many amazing people, became a published historian, and had opportunities takes me in all kinds of directions. From my first exploration over a decade ago, I’ve been driven to tell the stories of places that have been forgotten and see where all of this takes me.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
To me, the secret to life is happiness. For me to be happy, I just have to be me. Some of what make me who I am are roles that many of us take on, like being a parent, partner, and friend. Outside of those people that I am (mother, wife, & friend,) doesn’t matter what the world/society says I need to be or should be, who I am is constantly changing because I am always learning. Learning brings awareness and when you become aware and really get it, you grow…you evolve. The world/society can’t dictate the fluidity that comes with evolving and learning.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
There have been many times I’ve almost given up, but constantly remind myself that if a one armed man (Rick Allen from Def Leppard) can be a world famous drummer, then I don’t have any excuses as to why I can’t keep going.
On the surface it may sound like a silly reminder, but when you see someone overcome such odds like losing an arm for a two arm job, my problems and giving up really come into perspective.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, public me is just regular me. I’ll admit, I do church up my language for the public, but to wear a mask would be a lie.
Eventually the mask will slip and the truth will come to light.
It’s just best to be honest from the start.

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Definitely. Praise and encouragement is nice, but it’s not about praise. It’s about looking back at what’s completed and knowing I did my best. Being proud of what my best can achieve.
