Conversations with Rigoberto Tamez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rigoberto Tamez.

Hi Rigoberto, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Started off freestyling and beat boxing around the 5th grade at the time. Here is a lil autobiography i had wrote in school for an english credit.
“Born October First 1992. Removed from the womb. Cord got cut now im getting cleaned up. I opened up my eyes as my mother saw my eyes for the first time. She heard my first cries. Heard my first words. Yet no was around to help me ride my first bike or pick me up from the dirt. The knowlede I have I learned on my belhalf. Other memories are all a blur. A part of me that had no guidance. Now im stuck in this life fighting trying to find it. No father figure aound so i looked to the clouds and i ask my self why was i put on this planet that seems so Tragik. We arose from the sand. Why else do you think we got put back under this land. For theres always a reason for the lord to give breathe to a human being.Thats a true miracle. It has been a miracle for me to keep growing and learning. Raised without a father only my mama. Lord knows she did her best to feed and clothe me and keep me growing. From the south to the north enrolled in 5th grade not knowing how long i would stay. Trying to fit in like 50 candels piled on a cupcake.
Now you tell me if i was a mistake”…
5th grade George Washington Elementary. Ran into my homeboy,my best friend, the person that would become my longtime business partner in this music business that has brought me to where i am today. Miguel Angel Flores. A.k.a. M.i.C Northstar.
After awhile. I began to write my own lyrics and learning the art of rhythm and rhyme along with poetry around the 8th grade.
I remember watching the movie 8 mile. Then I REMEMBER
we started doing freestyle battles.
Freestyling over instrumentals.
With that being said I began to build my own flow. Memorizing certain lines to start of a freestyle.
Rapping over the instrumental beats on a kerokeo machine.
My voice sounded dope.
I didn’t know my voice sounded like this.
The first time I recorded anything, was on a portable stereo that had a built in microphone, with the option to play cassette or cd.
I would play the instrumental beat on top and record on a blank tape on the bottom.
Creating my first demos or mixtapes of myself at the time. My sister Lydia starting dating this dude named Billy.
My niece who was turning 15 at the time was having a quincenera.
We ended up going to the cities to shop for my nieces quincenera dress.
Not knowing that Billy had a connection with a dude in the cities that had a home studio. While we were there we stopped in for a visit.
I remember asking Billy what his name was.
He said he goes by JUST9.
I was like ok cool.
Just9 loaded up the beat that Billy and I were going to be recording on.
Then the track got done…
After the track was recorded.
We got in the ride and started jamming the track out loud.
The production was not all there.
We had to turn it all the way up in order to hear it.
After that, we got something to eat.
At this taqueriea.
About 30 tacos of Carne asada. Then we got back in the ride to check out the track.
Then at my niece’s quincenera. Thats when M.I.C Northstar started dating my niece.
That’s when we starting doing music.
After Billy got all the equipment we needed.
On some hustle and flow shit. Using cardboard cup holders and cardboard eggcartons stapled to the wall for soundproof purposes.
Then I remember he said we need to get an interface to plug in these microphones so the sound transfers into the program for recording.
I started to develop a flow and creating something that would push me and M.I.C. to the next level.
In school I remeber I used garage band to create some of the first beats.
Exploring all the different sounds and instruments.
I remember I played the trumpet for a bit.
Learned how to read music briefly.
As a freshman I took a choir course and learned a bit about vocals.
Then I got distracted by all the girls that were attracted to me.
Just as much as I was attracted to them.
Then I had to get a job to keep these girls happy.
I didn’t finish school.
Due to the fact I had to go to a tretment facility called share house for about 3 months.
While I was there it allowed me to learn something about myself.
Listening to others stories.
M.I.C. Northstar had mention to me that there’s someone in town that has a recording studio and looking for people to record and he said.” Just waiting for you so we can go check it out”. I said bet.
I’m out of this treatment facility anyway.
I just finished my probation… After that, we went to this studio that was called Ice house productions.
The producers name was Rednite. From South Dakota.
We knocked on the door and he let us in.
He put a beat on said.
“Let’s see what you got”…
Since then we started a movement that has been a long journey pushing NSG Music.
We opened up for some major artists around that time. Including Lil Flip. In Shakapoe MN.
Bushwick bill. Was a 420 show.
In Wisconsin.
As we started making noise. Everybody wanted to be down with Nsg music or started doing thier own thing.
Rednite moved out of town back to his hometown in South Dakota.
Music was still a priority to me.
I remember we also recorded a track titled” turn it up”.
Produced by Zach Lucy.
Another producer in the area.
We got in contact with him.
Set up a session.
Recorded the song.
Featuring M.I.C. Northstar.
O.E. Minnesotakid.
That song later got added to my album.
Then that’s when we met locash productions. Started doing shows with him.
Did a show in Bismark.
Opening up for Lil Wyte.
M.i.c. Northstar brother who went by the name Yung North.
Introduced us to Locash.
Saying he’s the best producer in town.
Hes been producing every artist in the area…
I was like for real.
He also had a clean sound.
He also had years of production knowledge.
Using pro tool programs and other programs to get that smooth sound.
We quickly got to work.
Then after awhile I had all these tracks.
No mixtapes. No albums.
Just tracks.
Then I got married to my beautiful wife Angelique Faye Thompson-Tamez. June 2017.
Then my homeboy M.I.C. went to prison. A few months later after that. Then I started working a warehouse job. Building a life with my wife. What happened to the music???
Everything came to a stop. While he was locked up.
I still jammed out the tracks we had.
Only because he had made a souncloud page before he got locked up and uploaded the tracks we had.
Even tho he was locked up for a 2 year bid.
He kept going.
He got a hold of locash productions and said I want to drop a mix tape called bars behind bars.
With that being said.
Bars behind bars got recorded.
Through the prison phone. Recording only bars at a time.
When he got out of prison.
N.$.G Music was about to be a label.
Then all the tracks I had.
M.i.c Northstar and Jhonny Mendez. A.k.a Johnny Blaze.
put them together to drop my first album called “Watching all hell break loose”. Good thing M.i.c Northstar had a laptop with all our music on there.
Otherwise all the music we did was just history.
That album was released.
On soundcloud at the end of 2020.
Alongside a video called haters keep trying.
A few months later.
On youtube.
Then I started working on a duo project with an artist rocking with N.$.G. music named
Chava Chavs from the CHI.
The mixtape was titled
Critical Thinking.
Two Critical.
We ended up doing a video to the last track on the album titled.
“Survived thru the bad”.
Then M.I.C and I started the 1st hype fest. The album still in the works.
Then something Tragik happened.
Before the album was done.
On my birthday of 2021.
I ended up in the hospital for about 9 days.
I had a whole In my head.
Some broken ribs.
Stitches on my head.
Where the whole was.
Due to an altercation I had with a person that claimed to be my friend.
Instead he ended up being a foe.
Hitting me in the head with a key to the truck he was driving.
Body slammed me.
He was a bit hefty.
He used his weight against me.
In doing so he landed on top of me breaking 6 out of the 12 ribs on my left side.
I had to get surgery on my ribs.
They installed titanium plates to help mend 3 out of the 6 bones that were broken.
The other 3 bones had to heal themselves. Hospital bill over 100 thousand dollars. Where am I supposed to get that kind of money. I said send it to that mother Focker that put me here.
After 9 days of being in the hospital. My mom and my wife both didn’t know what to do.
I was needed at home with my two year old daughter.
I went home to recover. My mind was still in shock. My body still hurting. My heart and my spirit remain strong for my daughter and this music. Then I proceeded to let chava chavs know. “Like hey bro. We have to finish this project.”and then we released
Critical Thinking. Two Critical.
On sound cloud.
Alongside a video titled, “survived thru the bad.” On Chava Chavs you tube Channel.
Also did a short mixtape called “cocaine flow”. A showcase of our lyrics and flow. And of how, our lyrics are addicting like a drug. In a sense.

Is the Name. N.$.G. Music be the team!!!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely financially it has been a struggle.
Trying to afford certain things to keep doing music. Keeping the inspiration alive.
Alot of that diminished for awhile when you get lost in the moment. Then you spend most of your time trying to find yourself before you lose yourself in this business…

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am unique. I write my own lyrics. I record with rhythm and flow. I’m best known for being a an up coming hip hop artist on verge of success.
Going through the struggle nothing more nothing less. Thinking about the times of good moments in my life and all the bad one that helped me heal overtime. Nowadays I feel blessed.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
Yes as an inspiring artist. Keep writing and keep doing music. Don’t lose the beat. And don’t let fear be the reason your not doing what you love if it brings peace and joy to others. Be the role model or the artist the people around you already think you are. Even if you feel like your nothing at all.
