My name is Troy Paul. I’m the Owner and Founder of Next Generation Construction, LLC (NGC), a licensed general‑contracting firm based in Kansas City, Missouri, and I’ve spent more than 15 years building a career around innovation, transformation, and purposeful construction.
My journey began with a simple but ambitious goal: to bring modern, sustainable, and efficient building solutions to the Kansas City area. I started as a hands‑on contractor, working directly with small teams on renovation and remodeling jobs, always focused on quality, craftsmanship, and delivering on client expectations. Over time, demand for reliable, creative building solutions grew, and so did our ambitions.
As NGC evolved, I saw opportunities beyond traditional renovations. I became fascinated with the idea of modular building, adaptive reuse, and creative housing solutions. That led us to explore and pioneer container‑based builds and other innovative construction approaches. Over the past several years, NGC has expanded to specialize in multi‑family renovations, ADUs (Accessory Dwelling Units), and custom projects, and we began transforming shipping containers into functional, high‑quality housing. This shift represented more than just a new service offering; it reflected my belief that smart, sustainable, and budget‑conscious building can create real value for property owners and communities.
Through this journey, NGC grew from a small, hands-on contracting outfit into a trusted, forward‑looking general contractor, known for blending creativity, craftsmanship, and business strategy. Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our journey hasn’t always been smooth. Like many growing construction companies, we’ve faced challenges with tight timelines, budget constraints, and navigating complex permitting processes. There were times when supply chain delays or unexpected site conditions tested our flexibility and problem-solving skills. Hiring and retaining skilled tradespeople was another hurdle, especially as we took on more specialized projects. Each obstacle, however, taught us the importance of communication, planning, and adaptability, ultimately making us a stronger and more reliable team for our clients.

Likes: What we love most about Kansas City is its strong sense of community, vibrant neighborhoods, and opportunities for growth in residential and commercial development. The city’s mix of historic charm and modern innovation provides the perfect backdrop for our projects, allowing us to create spaces that truly fit the character of the area.
Dislikes: The biggest challenge in the city can be navigating complex permitting processes and occasional construction regulations, which sometimes slow down projects. However, these challenges have also taught us the value of planning, patience, and strong relationships with city officials.

- All our projects are custom builds. However, our ADU pricing falls into the following breakdown.
- Basic backyard studio (160–320 sq. ft.): $35K–$65K
- Garage conversion with kitchen + bath: $80K–$140K
- Full 2-bedroom backyard container ADU (640–800 sq. ft.): $120K–$180K
