Hi Angela and Paige, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Hi! We are Angela & Paige! Two best friends and founders of Kansas City’s freshest pop-up hat bar. We met in 2017 through the bridal fashion industry and instantly clicked and never looked back. We’ve blended our collective talents to bring Kansas City a whole new form of self expression and creativity – rooted in our love for customization and all things fashion. We saw a gap for something new and opened Mayven 31 Hat Co. – a fresh, fashion-forward hat bar experience where we fit, shape and create custom felt and straw western and alternative style hats on the spot. We trained at millinery school in California and sharpened our skills at millinery workshop in Colorado – so we’re the real deal. You can find us at pop-up events around the city or hire us for your private party, corporate event, wedding weekend, girls night, birthday party and/or anything in between! You invite the guests, we’ll bring the hat bar. 🙂 The sky’s the limit!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth road but as business owners, we expected that! Learning a new trade comes with its challenges, scheduling and expenses! Finding millinery school wasn’t an easy task and securing funding and a retail space for a start-up is basically impossible. We’ve proudly boot-strapped this dream and will continue to pursue retail space if and when the right space becomes available. It’s a bonus to our business that we truly are best friends so we communicate well, fill in for each other when life happens and always keep our common goal at the forefront. <3
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
We fit, shape and create custom western and alternative hats on the spot for men and women! Angela loves more of an alternative style (think a flat brim with a pencil edge and a unique pattern), while Paige appreciates a more western flair (cattleman crown, studs, feathers, turquoise). We proudly cater to everything in between as well. Finding a hat that’s comfortable and fits each persons individual style is difficult and it excites us when we get the opportunity to craft something someone will really love for generations to come. Aside from fitting and shaping hats, we embroider, burn, brand, bead, etc felt and straw hats. Everything we create is 100% custom.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
We love that there is always something going on in Kansas City! There are so many different events, pop-ups, festivals, sporting events, corporations, etc around Kansas City that you get the big city feel along with the medium city traffic 😉 Kansas City is a great place to start a business!
