Community Highlights: Meet Mimi Nguyen of Nailed It KC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mimi Nguyen.

Hi Mimi , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I’ve been doing nails since 2009, started as a receptionist at my uncle’s shop and bloomed from there. Fast forward I am now in my own salon suite as a private nail tech. What pushed me to owned my own business was my kids and the support from my spouse, family and best friends. They believed in me even when I didn’t believe in myself. My husband pushing me to sign the contract when I was hesitant because I have a fear of failing. I wanted to give my kids a safe and secure life. I wanted them to see with hard work and dedication, they can do anything they set their minds to do. Next goal is to open a salon and help the new beauty pros fulfill their dreams.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It hasn’t been a smooth road. Went through an event in my life where I had to completely start over with nothing but the clothes on my back and as a single mom. But with the support I have I overcame it , worked 7 days a week straight just to get back on my feet. It wasn’t easy. But I had to think of my kids.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Nailed It KC?
I started my business because I wanted to give a safe space for clients who wanted to come and escape the world a little bit while getting their nails done. My space is dark, with accent lightening, in a closed off space, and you are relaxing in a recliner that has heating and a massager. Not your traditional nail space. No harsh lightening, no multiple conversations, just personal, safe therapeutic space. I wanted to give a space to my clients where they can come and unload their worries, their concerns, to talk about what upset them that day, what made them happy that day. Just a space for them to be them and enjoy themselves before having to go back to their every day life.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My husband plays a big role. He stayed home to watch our newborn so I can achieve my goals. He always believed in me and always reassured me that I CAN do it. Also my parents coming here to the states not knowing anybody or the language just to give me a better life so I knew I had to push myself because I want to be successful enough that I can retire them at an early age. My uncle for helping me start my nail journey, my brother & sister always right by my side and best friends cheering me on. I am blessed with such an amazing support system. I wouldn’t be where I am if it wasn’t for them and my clients!
