Story & Lesson Highlights with Amy Jones of Johnson County

We recently had the chance to connect with Amy Jones and have shared our conversation below.

Amy, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
My first 90 mins of each day is spent feeding my two dogs, drinking coffee, questioning why I’m up this early and then doing my morning workout which typically consists of peloton and yoga!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
ArtEnVie blossomed as “a happy little accident” in 2020 as the world seemed to shut down. Without formal training in the art, this creative journey began as a sort of experiment. Initially drawn to the transformative power of acrylic painting, quickly expanded to include photography, frame making, and integrating up-cycled materials with each piece- transforming what others might overlook into beautiful and meaningful creations. The work speaks to the resilience of the human spirit, the beauty of reinvention, the power of art to heal and transform inviting viewers to see the world anew—where even the most overlooked materials have the potential to create something extraordinary.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Bonds between people are built on trust, respect, and shared understanding. When people feel mistreated, disrespected or betrayed, those bonds can be broken. To restore bonds takes honest communication, a mutual understanding, vulnerability and empathy, respecting and acknowledging the other person’s feelings and showing effort and patience to do the work that’s needed to rebuild that relationship.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
I’ve always struggled with feelings of potentially not being good enough and having a fear at failing. Although this type of avoidance may have protected me from some disappointments, it has also likely held back growth to what I’m actually capable of. I want the courage to show up in my life, even while afraid, knowing that fear won’t break me but might even build me into a better version of me.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
I went into healthcare wanting to help people and make a difference in the lives of others. What I’ve learned now is that healthcare isn’t actually “patient centered”, it’s productivity centered. Hours are spent trying to justify the need for therapy from insurance companies only concerned about money. In this career, you’re told you can separate work from your heart. However, in reality, working in skilled nursing, you see people struggle, decline, and die. It’s the moments with patients, the small victories, and shared humanity that is real and that’s what really matters.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m out paddleboarding, the noise of the world — the to-do lists, the deadlines, the constant hum of responsibility — seems to fade into the distance. Nature doesn’t ask anything of me. It doesn’t measure productivity or expect perfection. It allows me to slow down, and to experience a calm just listening to the world around me.
