Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Carson.
Hi Courtney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started cooking and baking at a very young age. My mother and grandmother always let me help out in the kitchen and I was always eager to learn new things.
As I grew up, I started watching shows on the food network and my favorite was always the baking shows. Between watching the shows and practicing in the kitchen at home, baking became my love. It allowed me to show my creativity and was also a way that I could put a smile on the faces of others. I would always volunteer to bring a cake, cupcakes or other sweets to events for family.
I began taking baking a little more seriously when I posted a cake on social media and a friend asked how could they purchase it. From that point on, I began posting more content of things that I baked and established Sprinkle of Sprinkle LLC in May of 2022.
I currently run my business from home and hope to expand in the future. I also participate in First Fridays in the crossroads and other pop ups around the city.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
For the most part, it has been a smooth road. As a mostly self taught cake maker, my biggest struggle over the years has been learning some newer techniques and keeping up with all the trends. There is always something new and exciting that is requested for birthdays and other special events. In order to keep my skills up, I attend virtual classes and also do continuous research on baking and cake making.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
With my business, Sprinkle of Sugar LLC, I create custom buttercream cakes, cupcakes and treats. I am known for my delicious cakes and treats.
What sets me apart and what I’m most proud of is my ability to take a customer’s idea and turn it into a beautiful dessert. No matter what concept is thrown my way, I am able to take it on and provide a fresh take on it.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Most of my mentors are family members but I also have a few that are fellow bakers. I get to do a lot of networking at pop up events and also when I am out and about. I am always willing to tell someone about my business and to give advice if requested. It has always worked well for me when I approach people or potential mentors with a positive attitude. I’ve never been afraid to ask hard questions in an effort for improvement.
