Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Frantze.
Hi Kevin, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started bussing tables at Margarita’s in Martin City at 15 during the summer after my freshman year of high school. Until that point, I had been filled with dread about life, because almost everyone I knew had a 9-5 job. I hated getting up early, but I loved being up late, socializing, and couldn’t really sit still. Suddenly, I saw the path for me. There was a whole world of people making their lives work with their restaurant jobs! I couldn’t wait to get into the restaurant business full time! I went to Northern Arizona University and got a degree from their School of Hospitality Management. After over 25 years in this business, I’ve worked for mom and pop restaurants, regional chains, and large corporate entities, and I am now using that experience to make for the best experience possible for every patron of JJ’s.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Like many, I have occasionally dropped out of the restaurant world and done other jobs. A frustrating job can mean that you need a break from this industry, but I love this business so much that I’ve always found my way back.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am talented at putting the right people in the right places. We are a team, and we play on each other’s strengths. Very few restaurants are entirely put on by one person.
I am also a sommelier. My love of history brought me to it. Every grape, and even every vineyard has a story.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’m most proud of the people I work with. Getting to help others grow and learn is the most rewarding part of this business. Many folks will not make this their careers, but we teach people skills that are excellent for anyone to know, regardless of where their path takes them.
