Rising Stars: Meet Brenda Busch of Maryville MO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Busch.

Hi Brenda, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I got started by having a wine slushie at a winery in Weston, MO. I thought…this is amazing, different, and fun! Living over an hour away from Weston, and wanting to enjoy a slushie more often, I looked into slushie mixes, and learned how easy they could be made at home. I tried many different mixes, surprised at how different the mixes were, some ok, some not. Through trial and error, I discovered the perfect mix.

From the starting point to now, I have created everything. The labels, packaging, website, and so much more.

A year ago (fall 2024) I read about the Great NW Winefest in Mound City MO. I called them to inquire about the event, and such. When I shared with them what my business was, they wanted The Wine Slushie Company at their event. I had no idea what I was doing, didn’t have machines, and so much more. With their encouragement, I attended. The Wine Slushie Company’s slushies were a huge it! Everyone loved them!! With this…my mind began to brainstorm.

Over a year later, the love of The Wine Company’s Slushies continue to grow.

Initially we just sold the mix retail, and drinks by the glass at events. Today, we do the same, are in a couple of stores, offer wholesale, private labeling, and an affiliate program. It’s so much fun, and we are just getting started.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road is never smooth in business start up. I have encountered struggles, although didn’t quit, and worked my way through them.

Some of the struggles:
– Learning how to create and design labels.
– Setting up a Shopify Site.
– Learning how to run commercial slushie machines.
– The proper mix ration in different machines, in a personal blender, a regular blender, and in the freezer. (People are going to need directions.)
– Of course, funding…and balancing finances.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
A little more about my professional life. All of my knowledge is from surrounding myself around professional, successful people. I do not have a degree. I listened and I learned.

The first part of my professional life was in the field of industrial distribution,. Talk about learning…. I didn’t know so many parts existed. I have such a love for manufacturing and all the parts it takes a factory to create a product.

My second part of my professional life… I am a Cosmetologist, Barber, and Esthetician. I love it. I get to make people feel amazing everyday.

I am very business savvy. I see opportunity, and ways to improve processes everywhere.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I connect with ethical, successful people. People that are not negative, and are problem solvers like myself.
