Good morning Donte , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Have you stood up for someone when it cost you something?
I actually have, It cost me my job at the time. Me & my Co worker had been working alongside each other for around a year & He was promised a raise for the company giving him more responsibilities. Well 6 months go by & no pay bump just more responsibilities. He was a super nice guy & very non confrontational so he never said anything. There were other things going on as well but I eventually snapped & me & the branch manager got into a heated argument about this. It ended with me being terminated on the spot, but the best part about this story was my Co Worker texted me a week later saying he finally got that pay raise. 10/10 would do it again.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
What’s up everybody I’m DonDrizzy. I’m an artist, content creator & brand owner out of Kansas City, Mo. I love to make music mainly hiphop & alternative, I’m partnered with Smart Alec On The Track & His Record Label Subliminal Music Group/All RockStars Go To Heaven. I’ve been a Partner/Signee to the company for 7 almost 8 years now. Me & Smart Alec created a full length Album in 2021 called “Aspera Adastra” & An EP called “Between Love & Lust” in 2023 alongside many other singles.
We recently had a show at the Outlaw Cigar & Brewery in North KC & it was a very successful show for us & the crowd was bigger than we expected. I also Create Golf Content For Our brand “ShowMeAverageGolf” With my Buddy/Business partner Justin Viana who is a Co Owner of the brand. We’re from Kansas City, Mo & one day we decided to get T-Shirts made just to see if anyone would like it & they did so 2 months later we’ve already sold $700 dollars worth of merch & counting! Might not seem like a lot to most people but to us it means everything & shows us the potential we have in this space. In order to help sell more merch we thought making content would be a great way to do that, to help build awareness & We love to golf & we have always enjoyed watching golf content. We figured we golf so much maybe we should start filming ourselves playing. Now we are high handicap golfers so don’t expect to watch our content & see us shooting in the 70’s. You can expect a couple of Midwest guys having fun & enjoying the experience of creating content that people can relate to. Our brand is also For the weekend warriors who love the game & have an itch to get better at it. We are currently Working on getting our website up & going & We just put in a new order for our next batch of T-Shirts! Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. Who taught you the most about work?
My Mom & Grandma. 2 of the hardest working woman I’ve ever been around in my life. Our family has been through a lot & my mom has always taken care of business & has always been there for me regardless of what she had going on. When I was younger she was the sole provider & Income we had so there were times she’s picked up 2 jobs to make sure I was taken care of & make sure all the bills got paid. As I grow older I realize that may be one of the most valuable lessons I could ever learn in my life. & I’m super thankful for her & everything she’s done for me!
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Multiple times. Sad to say but I’ve almost quit multiple times. Sometimes when things aren’t going as smooth as you thought, when things seem like they are not working out it’s difficult for me to stay calm & positive. I’m my biggest critic & I put myself under a lot of pressure to become successful so I can take care of my family one day. Some days are hard to see the light & to trust the process. Sometimes things happen that make it seem obvious you should quit. The difference between people who make it & who don’t is even when it may seem like the right thing to do is to quit, they have this strange inner belief that no matter what happens, they will make it. Regardless of what their situation may reflect to them. That strong sense of inner belief is so important in anything you do. I just have to remind myself that if stay consistent & I continue to push forward no matter what & keep my faith, then at some point something will pop.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
The belief that I’ll become financially successful & To take of my family now & my future family. (I plan to be married with kids one day)
I will not stop until I achieve this goal
Of mine. It’s like the famous 50 cent quote/movie. “Get Rich Or Die Trying”
& that’s the mentality. To be able to inspire & motivate the next generation of kids wanting to become something. To be an example for the world in the most positive way. I’ve always believed that someday I would figure it out & everything would workout how I thought it would. Maybe it will maybe it won’t but one thing is for certain. I will continue & I won’t stop until I achieve this dream or I’ll grow old & die trying.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I feel I’m doing what I was born to do. Which is being creative & using my creativity to create something inspiring to the world & other people. & I will pursue that until my last days.
