Today we’d like to introduce you to Conor Scholes.
Hi Conor, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The Gathering Baptist Church has two campuses that are located in Independence and Blue Springs, Missouri. With a rich history of over 50 years in both cities, The Gathering exists to share the love and hope found in Jesus with those around them through weekly worship services, small group discipleship, and local mission partnerships with non-profits throughout the KC Metro, as well as partnering throughout the United States and the world to provide resources to those in need.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Having multiple campuses presents both challenges and rewards throughout the process. It gives us the opportunity to reach more people in their own community, as well as find and meet the needs of the community around us. As far as challenges, managing the needs and upkeeps of multiple locations can present unique issues that we are constantly learning how to adapt to, but the lives changed through the process make it worth it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I (Conor) currently serve as the worship pastor at The Gathering. This means that I am in charge of planning our weekend services, building and growing teams, as well as finding ways to teach and incorporate the next generation of leaders in our services. It has been a pleasure to watch the many talented volunteers we have learn and grow in their skills that they weekly use to lead our services, and to see how the different generations in our church interact with each other. One of my particular gifts is to write music, and we incorporate some of our own songs in service, which are written specifically to connect where our people are at in their spiritual journey.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I grew up in a small town in Kansas (Pratt), and loved the summers where I would ride with my dad to work at the farm each day. It helped me learn the importance of the little things, and developing relationships with the people around you.
