Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathleen Cussen.
Hi Kathleen , we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been working full-time since I was 18 years old. Most recently, for the past 16 years I held roles in two small businesses. the first company/role was in Sales, Marketing and Team Management and the second company/role was as COO of a local bakery that had 32 employees. Last August I had that moment. It was the it’s now or never.
Sooo…After more than 30 years of reimagining spaces for my own homes and family, I decided to launch MKC Designs. My intention is to tell my clients story through design and thoughtful, functional layouts.
I see potential everywhere. I see the beauty in what is and what could be.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge was having the confidence to do it. After my last role as COO I proved to myself that I could run the day to day business of owning a business.

MKC Designs is a boutique firm offering a timeless design aesthetic. We are dedicated to creating spaces that focus on unique elements that evoke a sense of approachable elegance that is equally relaxing, comfortable and inviting.
Our mission is to tell our clients story through designs that prioritize function, beauty and their lifestyle. Together we will define how their home feels, functions and looks.
With a mix of materials, textures, colors, and the understanding of how to apply these elements, our designs will result in spaces for their interiors that feel thoughtful and timeless yet unique to them and their family.
What sets us apart from others is we can actually do a lot of the work ourselves. We not only have the vision but the know how to bring it to life. We also lead with integrity. I believe in trust and true partnerships.
I will work alongside my clients to tell their story; meet them where they are, both in terms of budget and aspirations. They may be just starting out, they may be managing a busy family, they may be empty nesters ready to elevate their entertaining.
I believe in creating timeless, approachable spaces that they will enjoy for years to come. I believe the best design is curated over time. I believe your home is meant to be a place of respite. A place to undo the day. A place to gather the ones you love for a meal. A place to nourish and restore.
I hope to become a trusted partner for my clients in creating spaces within their home that will allow them to live the life they want and deserve.
