Check Out Shantiel Nicholson’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Shantiel Nicholson.

Hi Shantiel, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I went to beauty school at 20 years old, after being the go-to friend for haircuts and color in my friend group. Back then, I was working at Sally’s Beauty Supply, and my friends constantly asked why I wasn’t already in cosmetology school — so I finally took the leap.

I started my career in my hometown and quickly built a loyal clientele! Seven years into my career, my partner and I made a huge life move — halfway across the country to Kansas City — with our son in tow. And I had to start over in this industry..

Restarting my career from scratch in a new city has been humbling, challenging, and so rewarding. It’s taken a lot of hard work and perseverance, but it’s finally starting to feel like home again. I’m so grateful to be building a community of my kind of people, who trust me with their hair!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road, this industry is up & down for most of us! Especially being a stylist during Covid, things are finally starting to turn around and feel like the pre Covid days for me though! One thing is, you have to have HUSTLE & thick skin!!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in all things hair COLOR! I can do haircuts, styling, treatments and all that but when it comes to color & formulating hair color to custom fit each client.. THAT is where I THRIVE! I love people, I think my willingness and ability to really connect with each client sets me apart from all the other talented stylist in the city!

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I have always been outgoing, never shy! I have always LOVED to talk… yes, my report card always said “talks a lot” like most of my fellow hair stylists!
