Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Wiens.
Hi Emily, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve been in the hair industry for over 16 years, spending my first nine at a corporate salon. As I began diving deeper into my own wellness journey, starting with yoga and expanding into holistic living, I felt called to create a healthier space for both myself and my clients.
The beauty industry can be tough on people and the planet, so I transitioned into a salon suite where I could use low-tox, sustainable products and became a Green Circle Salon to ensure everything from hair clippings to foils was properly recycled.
After three years, I opened my own micro salon in Shawnee to have full control over the environment and guest experience. Today, my salon focuses on color and extensions, paired with a unique head spa experience that blends beauty and wellness.
Now, as a mom of two, balance and ease guide everything I do. Beyond the salon, I share what I’ve learned through coaching and wellness education, helping other beauty professionals create lives and businesses that feel as good as they look.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Definitely not! One of my biggest challenges has been unlearning the hustle culture that so many stylists live by.. double booking, skipping meals, running on coffee or energy drinks, and always chasing “more.” For a long time, I thought that was just what success looked like, but eventually, it caught up with me.
That was really the turning point that launched me into my own wellness journey. I realized I couldn’t pour into others if I was constantly running on empty. Now, I focus on quality over quantity, set boundaries that support my business, my family, and my life and work in a way that feels sustainable and aligned. It’s been such a game changer, and I love helping other stylists find that same balance.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Hive Beauty Collective ?
My salon is a color and extension focused micro salon in Shawnee with a big emphasis on holistic beauty and wellness. I’ve built it to be an intentional space that’s healthier for both myself, my guests, and the planet. I use cleaner, low-tox products, and am a certified Green Circle Salon that recycles everything from foils to hair clippings. I have also recently added a refillery option to help cut down on waste even more.
What really drives me is my constant desire to keep learning and growing.. whether that’s new color techniques, advanced extension methods, or deepening my studies in movement and wellness. I never want to stop evolving, both for myself and the people who sit in my chair.
At the heart of it, my brand is about balance, authenticity, and connection. I want every guest to feel seen, cared for, and restored when they leave my chair.
Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I’d just say, trust yourself. In a world where social media, AI, and so much of what we see is designed to push an agenda or sell us something, it’s easy to lose touch with our own inner voice. But you already hold all the answers, even if you don’t realize it yet. You are enough exactly as you are.
Try not to fall into the comparison trap. Your path, your pace, and your purpose are uniquely yours. The world is better because you’re in it, and you have something beautiful to share that no one else can bring.
