Conversations with Danna Dahl

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danna Dahl.

Hi Danna, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
re:Vive Counseling, Consulting and Training was founded in 2015. We are excited to be celebrating our 10th anniversary this year! Our name was chosen intentionally to highlight our desire to improve the lives of people in our community through a variety of services. Our primary focus is providing counseling for individuals (ages 3 and older), couples, and families struggling with a wide range of mental health, relational and intrapersonal difficulties. The staff at re:Vive routinely assist clients in navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, grief, pre-marital counseling, couple and family conflict, perinatal concerns, sexual addiction, betrayal trauma, spiritual concerns, identity development and life transitions. For children, we offer play therapy to help them process their struggles in a developmentally appropriate way. We also offer group therapy options for adults. Our consulting services allow us to use mental health concepts to equip and empower local businesses and organizations to better understand their employees, members and stakeholders. We can also address systemic challenges to help these groups be more effective and productive. Through the training arm of our business, we contribute to the professional development of other mental health providers by offering continuing education workshops and providing clinical supervision services to counseling interns and newly licensed counselors.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We are very grateful that the majority of our 10 years have gone smoothly. The biggest challenge we have faced was navigating the changes and stresses brought about by the COVID pandemic. Through consultation with other counselors and group practices, as well as direction from local authorities, we figured out how to continue providing services for clients in the safest and most effective ways possible.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am most proud of the team we have at re:Vive. We currently have 9 licensed clinicians and 1 counseling intern. Each of our counselors places high value on professional development and is also committed to their own personal growth. This helps them show up as their best self with each of their clients. Many of our staff have post-masters certifications in areas such as play therapy, perinatal mental health, couples counseling, sexual addiction treatment and betrayal trauma treatment. We all have different personalities and approaches to therapy which allows us to pair clients with a clinician who is a good fit specifically for them.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
As counselors, we are grateful for the mental health resources available throughout the larger Kansas City metro and the support of and collaboration with other providers. We also appreciate the diversity of our city and the many opportunities to engage with a variety of people by dining at local restaurants, visiting museums, hanging out at coffee shops, attending ethnic festivals, cheering on our sports teams, and enjoying places like the River Market or Overland Park Arboretum. In Kansas City, you never have to be bored!
