Community Highlights: Meet Jennifer Lin of Out With My Curls

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jennifer Lin.

Hi Jennifer , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
In 2021, I was simply looking for ways to slow down, move my body, and reconnect with nature, so I became a yoga instructor. I found joy in biking, hiking, practicing yoga outside, and kayaking – small escapes that helped me find balance in the middle of a busy life.

As I began sharing those outdoor adventures on social media, I started hearing from people who wanted to join or do something similar, but didn’t know where to start. They were curious but unsure, interested but hesitant and I understood that feeling completely. That’s when I realized how powerful a simple invitation could be!

Out With My Curls grew from that spark. From the idea that the outdoors should feel accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to everyone. Especially for individuals who haven’t always seen themselves represented in these spaces, I wanted to create a community that felt safe, supportive, and full of joy.

What started as solo adventures has blossomed into a growing movement of people showing up for themselves, for each other, and for nature. Every hike, every yoga class, and every shared laugh under the trees reminds me that connection to nature and to one another is where healing lives.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Just like a steep hiking trail, growth often comes with its own challenges. Balancing a full-time career while leading community events requires creativity and commitment. There have been times when resources were limited; whether it was finding equipment, planning for accessibility, or meeting the growing interest of participants.

There’s also been a learning curve in holding space for others however that may look while still remaining respectful to nature. Yet, every challenge has been an opportunity for refinement and strengthening our purpose. Each event reminds me that building community around nature is not just about the destination, it’s about walking the path together.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Out With My Curls is a wellness and outdoor community rooted in connection, representation, and joy. We create experiences that invite people to slow down, move with intention, and rediscover themselves through nature. From yoga classes inspired by literature (Pages & Poses) to guided forest bathing walks and kayaking, our offerings are designed to nurture both body and mind while building a sense of community.

We believe that nature should be a place of restoration, not intimidation; a space where everyone can breathe deeply, find balance, and feel free.

What makes Out With My Curls unique is our heart for community. We focus on creating accessible, inclusive experiences that meet people where they are. Whether it’s someone’s first time on a trail or their hundredth, everyone is celebrated for showing up.

I’m most proud of how this community continues to grow – not through grand marketing campaigns, but through word of mouth, shared stories, and genuine connection. It’s proof that when people feel seen and supported, they not only show up for themselves but for others too.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I’d love readers to know that you don’t have to have all the right gear, experience, or even confidence to start exploring the outdoors, you just have to show up with curiosity. Out With My Curls is all about meeting people where they are and reminding them that nature welcomes everyone exactly as they are.

If you’ve been thinking about getting outside, this is your invitation. Bring yourself, your water bottle, and maybe even some snacks to share!
