Exploring Life & Business with Dr. Trennon Roarty, PT, DPT, PCES of From the Ground Up Physical Therapy & Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Trennon Roarty, PT, DPT, PCES.

Hi Dr. Trennon, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
From the time I was little, I dreamed of becoming a physician. I always had a deep desire to help people heal and feel better. During my junior year of undergrad, everything changed. I was in a motor vehicle accident that left me with chronic back pain for years, limiting my ability to stay active. At the time, I was heavily involved in bodybuilding, but my progress came to a halt.

When I went to outpatient physical therapy, I hoped for relief, but I felt like just another person walking through the door, not an individual with my own story and goals. When my pain persisted after discharge, I realized I wanted to make a difference in how patients experience care. After taking the MCAT and applying to medical school, I decided to pursue a career in physical therapy, which felt like the perfect fit.

When I began PT school, I envisioned myself working in pediatrics. But after the birth of my first child, my path shifted. I started experiencing abdominal pain whenever I did pull-ups or push-ups, movements that had always come easily before pregnancy. I knew something wasn’t right and that there had to be a way to fix it. My research led me to pelvic floor physical therapy, a field that at the time was rarely discussed. I hadn’t learned about it during pregnancy or postpartum, but once I did, it completely changed how I viewed recovery and women’s health.

Through targeted exercises, I was able to heal my core and eliminate my pain within a few months. That experience was life-changing. It not only transformed my own recovery but also ignited a deep passion for helping others understand and reconnect with their bodies.

After working in a traditional outpatient clinic, I knew I wanted to do more. I wanted more time with each patient and more freedom to provide the kind of care I knew people truly needed. I opened From the Ground Up Physical Therapy & Wellness in 2024 to provide holistic, one-on-one care. Today, as an orthopedic and pelvic floor physical therapist, I am committed to empowering others with the knowledge and confidence to manage pain, regain independence, and improve their overall quality of life. I continue to learn, grow, and refine my skills so I can provide the best possible care for every person who walks through my door feeling unseen, unheard, or unsure of their body’s potential.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Is growth ever smooth? Life has a way of being busy, chaotic, and unpredictable, yet it is also deeply beautiful.

When I was in physical therapy school, I knew in my heart that one day I wanted to open my own practice. Over time, that dream started to feel out of reach. I often heard that private practice ownership was too difficult, too demanding, and too risky. For a while, I set the idea aside and focused on learning from others, working for different business owners, and gaining experience in the field.

Eventually, I could no longer ignore the pull. I realized what I truly wanted was to create a space where people felt seen and heard the moment they walked through the door. I wanted my patients to feel cared for, not rushed or dismissed, but genuinely listened to and supported.

When my youngest child grew older, I decided it was time to take the leap. In February 2024, I opened From the Ground Up Physical Therapy & Wellness. It was a dream that had been years in the making.

Owning a business certainly comes with challenges, but showing up for my patients each day never feels like one of them. That part comes naturally. Helping people heal, move, and find confidence in their bodies fills my days with meaning. Growth may not be smooth, but it is always worth it.

As you know, we’re big fans of From the Ground Up Physical Therapy & Wellness. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am a Doctor of Physical Therapy and the owner of From the Ground Up Physical Therapy & Wellness, located in Saint Joseph and Maryville, Missouri. I offer pelvic floor physical therapy, birth preparation, postpartum care, and treatment for a variety of orthopedic conditions in runners, CrossFit athletes, post-operative patients, and individuals of all ages. I take a whole-body approach, focusing on the root causes of pain and dysfunction rather than just the symptoms. Each session is individualized because no two people are the same, and their treatments should be just as unique.

I am proud to offer a clinic where patients receive genuine care and support. All sessions are one-on-one, ensuring every patient receives personalized attention. I prioritize listening to my patients’ concerns and taking them seriously. My goal as a pelvic health and orthopedic physical therapist is to provide compassionate, individualized care that empowers every person to regain strength, confidence, and independence.

Any big plans?
I’m thrilled about the future as I recently opened a second location in Maryville, Missouri. This new space is part of a collaborative clinic shared with several other women-owned businesses offering a variety of health and wellness services. The community has been incredibly welcoming, and I’m looking forward to working alongside other dedicated providers. Expanding into Maryville allows me to offer personalized physical therapy care to more individuals throughout Northwest Missouri and continue helping people reach their goals.
