Today we’d like to introduce you to Konnor Gann.
Hi Konnor, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started Limelight Production in 2019 with a simple goal — to help small businesses tell their stories through photo and video. What began as a passion for visual storytelling has grown into a full-scale production company serving the Kansas City area.
From the start, I focused on promotional and educational content — the kind that helps small businesses connect with their audiences, explain what they do best, and stand out in a crowded market. Over time, I’ve refined my approach to create videos and photos that feel genuine and purposeful, not just polished.
Collaboration has played a huge role in Limelight’s growth. I work closely with Holly Grimwood of EVOS Consulting, who specializes in marketing and web development. Together, we help small businesses not only create high-quality photo and video content but also use it strategically online — from their websites to social media campaigns.
While my primary focus is on business content, I also provide event photography when it helps strengthen relationships or supports local organizations. Every project is an opportunity to shine a light — quite literally — on the people and stories that make Kansas City unique.
What’s kept me going is the collaboration. I get to work directly with business owners, hear their vision, and translate it into visuals that make an impact. It’s been a rewarding journey, and I’m excited to keep growing alongside the community that’s supported me from the beginning.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. Like a lot of small business owners, I started Limelight with passion but had to learn the business side along the way. In the early years, I was doing everything myself — filming, editing, client communication, and managing the back end of the business. It was rewarding but also overwhelming at times.
One of the biggest challenges was finding consistent work and learning how to market my services effectively. I had to figure out how to turn creative skills into a sustainable business. That process taught me the importance of building relationships and providing real value to clients instead of chasing every project that came my way.
Another struggle was balancing creativity with structure. When you’re passionate about your craft, it’s easy to focus on the art and forget about contracts, invoices, or long-term planning. Over time, I’ve learned how to streamline my process, set clear expectations with clients, and create systems that let me focus on the creative side while still running a professional operation.
Looking back, those challenges shaped the business into what it is today — more focused, efficient, and aligned with what I actually enjoy doing.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
At Limelight Production, I focus on helping businesses tell their stories through high-quality photo and video. My work centers around creating promotional and educational content that not only looks great but serves a clear purpose — helping brands communicate who they are and what they offer.
I’ve had the opportunity to work with some well-known names in the Kansas City area, including Price Chopper and Goodcents, producing marketing photos and videos that showcase their products and community involvement. My biggest ongoing client is American Trust Administrators, where I create educational and promotional content for their learning management system. Those projects focus on teaching young insurance brokers the fundamentals of the industry in a way that’s both engaging and professional.
What really sets Limelight apart is my approach to storytelling. I specialize in video interviews and podcasts, which allow people and brands to speak directly to their audience in an authentic way. I aim to make every project feel natural, conversational, and true to the client’s voice — not overly scripted or corporate.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud of the relationships I’ve built. Many of my clients come back for repeat projects because they trust the process and see the results. My goal is to make high-quality production accessible to small businesses, helping them present themselves with the same polish and confidence as larger brands.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
What makes me happy is the gear side of what I do. I’m a huge tech nerd — especially when it comes to cameras, lighting, and optics. I love tinkering with the latest audio and video equipment and figuring out how to push it to its full potential.
I’ve spent hundreds, if not thousands, of hours researching new tools, testing setups, and finding ways to make every project look and sound better. That constant learning and experimentation is what keeps me excited about this work. Every time I pick up a new piece of gear or try a new workflow, it feels like leveling up my craft.
